Thanks, Mike. I've been through a rough patch - not complaining, just stating why I have been AWOL.

We forgive any good reasons for delaying work on your Willys. And from the sounds of it you had a good reason.

I for one will be looking forward to any photos you post.

OK, I finally got smart. I have been really busy with selling a second home, remodelling my primary home in preparation for sale, shopping for land in Arizona, etc. SO the Jeep has been sitting 95% done with no progress for a while.

I order to make some headway on all fronts, tI turned my Willys over to a friend who is a 'classic' old school mechanic. He will finish the wiring and exhaust (all parts are in hand), get it running and tuned.

I've had the seats re-upholstered and they are waiting to go in the Jeep. The windshield glass has been replaced with the correct thickness safety glass, I just need to put the gasket on the inner and the rubber bit on the outer frame and mount it.

That should be it.

(I would have taken photos, but the Jeep is not at my house - it's at the mechanic's. Yea!)

Talked to the mechanic just minutes ago. We have spark and oil pressure (removed disty and spun the oil pump). Should fire up tomorrow!

Mark - The reverse switch seems to be working. I still still a little ahead of you... hopefully can get photos tomorrow.  After 5 years I am getting this done.

What engine do you have?  Looking back, I can see it's a Go-Devil.  You can't spin a Go-Devil's oil pump because it's driven by the camshaft, not the distributor.

On the L134 engine the oil pump drive gear is accessible through the distributor hole. Remove distributor, insert a rod with the slotted end to match the gear, operate drill motor.

Mike that will not work and could cause damage the Oil pump is geared directly to the Cam and will not turn unless the Cam is turning. To try to force it could damage the end of the Oil Pump shaft where it connects to the distributor.

Some guys pack the pump with Vaseline (though I would think an assebly lube like Lubriplate 105 would be a better choice) to help get the pump primed. You can also open one of the galley plugs on the side of the engine and inject oil into the galley to help get oil to the bearings and cam faster. I plan on doing that prior to first start up. My engine has so much assembly lube on everything because I knew it would be so long between assembly and start up I wanted to make sure nothing got rusty. I'm almost worried about the oil being to thick on start up LOL.

I'll be changing it out right after the 20 min 2000rpm cam/tappet break in period.

If things go well I should be able to have the engine running well enough in a couple min to reach 2000 rpm steady at which time I will hold it there for the recomended 20min to allow the tappets and new cam lobes to wear in. Then I will run it for an additional few min while I fiddle with the Tune. After 30-45 min I will dump the start up oil (which will be Lucas 30wt Break in oil with 3634ppm of zinc. I will then refill the engine with the same oil and run it for the first 2000 miles at which time I will change the oil and filter to Lucas Hot Rod and Classic Oil 10-30wt with 2100 ppm zinc and run that for a normal 3000 mile cycle. I plan on sticking to the Lucas oil buying it from Summit racing in 5 quart jugs 3 jugs at a time to get the free shipping.

The Willys is running. Fired on the first crank and runs smooth. No carb adjustment or other fiddling around. The temp sender seat is slightly damaged so we blocked it off until I can get a replacement.

Mounting the windshield and seats later this week.Welding up the exhaust - final tweaks and road test coming up soon. I will try to get some photos.

This is the excellent reverse light switch that Mark W provided. Fits great and works fine. Thanks again, Mark!
