Just like the title says...I am moving. My girlfriend moved to Astoria Oregon a couple months ago and I am quite fond of her ( crazy in love with) She is perfect for me. She is a hard worker, doesn't mind getting dirty, puts up with me, takes care of me, Is absolutely gorgeous in my eyes, goes on my Jeep adventures, we always have super amounts of fun and she loves me.
Okay now that is out there I am going to drive my CJ2A there. 2,600miles roughly, about 47 hours. Did I mention I am not done with it. Oh and I plan on leaving mid October if not sooner. http://goo.gl/maps/pmD4B I am looking forward to it. Not really looking for advise or anything ( Donations will gladly be accepted! ) I just want to get the route out there and hopefully meet some members and if I run into any trouble... well... Dennis,
I am very close to Hwy. 20 in Cedar Falls, IA. When you are passing through, let me know if you need assistance. Joe |

I must say you are moving to a beautifull part of the country, I was in Astoria last july, very nice people. Also lots of flatfenders on Craigslist there and lots of Jeeping to be had. Your Jeep will make the trip fine, prep work is the key to keeping Mr. murphy at bay. Good luck on your future, the wonderfull girl at the end of your trail will be your inspiration. How bout taking the Oregon Trail

That's one heck of a journey. I guarantee it will take a lot longer that 47 hours though.
I'd recommend some light duty earplugs, that wind noise will wear on ya. Make sure you eat at Bowpicker for me. |

If it is the same 20 I remember, (30 as well) there are sections that will beat you to death. Typically unmaintained concrete road with an expansion joint every 20 feet. I don't know away around them either. We were going thru Dubuque and over 20 a few miles on our last trips out of Wisconsin, and there are places full of people who want to go around slower vehicles come hell or high water, so be careful.
It might be worth using a SMV sign or some flags up high to warn the texting and cell phone addicts out there that something is up and they need to wake up. (I realize you will be gong a bit too fast to legally use the slow moving vehicle sign.) Not a whole lot of wide shoulders in Iowa, but there is usually a hard gravel strip and some grass to pull off onto. Enjoy it, it will be a once in a lifetime trip!

Teton Pass-that will be interesting with 60 hp-may be in first gear on some of it. Very nice scenery though.
And Astoria is really nice but hope you like rain. One of the adventures of a life time for sure. Good luck!
