Gary, I have this shot of an original wood block reinforcement for the fender to frame mount. It goes up inside the hat channel for strength at the two main mounting bolts.

Gary, my hat channels aren't closed at the frame mount and the wood fillers are still in place, maybe they don't rust out so bad because the water can drain out the bottom, just conjecture on my part, rust isn't nearly the problem here in WA as it is in MN, (my mom's faminly is from there, have some fond memories, even lived there for a while and had a business for a couple of years), this parts thing is great, I think that after more and more info is compiled, the picture should get clearer (or maybe notErmm, anyway thanks for all your inputs.

This is the left fender from 23353. A couple of things of note...I don't recall the significance of the large hole about 3/4" at the top of the hat channel on the inside edge, was it for the blackout light wire on the MB?...also the original anti squeak pads were intact...the small hole at the bottom between the vents is for a fuel line clamp...and the small holes along the inside edge at the top are for wiring clamps. Also the two post wiring block...There is quite a bit of detail information here...

Yeah, They used White Oak for the wood fillers in the hat channels, someone I spoke with was using the new synthetic deck material for replacement in his.

My '47 has an open end hat channel on the fender mount and an oak insert cut flush with the bottom end of the hat channel. It seems to extend most of the way up the straight, vertical part of the channel.

Would someone with a complete original jeep be able to post what the holes in the fenders above are for?
I guess there should be an early and late fender too, depending upon the horn location.

Russ, for the left fender the two holes that are vertically aligned towards the front are the attaching points for the junction plate for the lights.  The rest of the holes are for wire clamps, although one clamp near the front of the fender is missing on my '46.  Two of the five wire clamp holes are very close to the top of the fender to the rear of the fender hat channel.  If there were a fender mounted horn, there would be four hours in a rectangular pattern based on my '47 that does have the fender mounted horn.  The hole that is low on the fender, just above the frame and below the vents, is for a clamp for the metal fuel line.

I think that the holes for attaching the fender are obvious, and I have not tried to describe them.
