Just thinking about getting started on restoring m7 47; my engine is the original flat 4 and seems to be a light blue color by the remaining paint.
Can anyone tell me what the right paint color would be for a 47 engine, and what would be the closest match in an enamel engine paint rattle can?

I have it on pretty good authority that this is NOT an original paint scheme for an L-134 engine…

I would agree athawk 11!!
Thanks for the links guys; this is my first jeep; I have restored many british sports cars, and muscle cars (just finishing my 68 charger) so I am looking forward to doing this jeep. It is a 47 and I am really torn between putting it back into factory color scheme, or doing a military jeep ( I am a huge ww2 buff).
Is there any way to tell what the factory color was for the body and the rims from the data plates, like on a muscle car? Mine has 3 layers of color on it, and the base layer is yellow.

No, the VIN and the body tag are no help with the color.  You have to go by what you find on the tub.  Look for areas that either were not repainted such as under the grease on the transmission hump. Also, under the data tags and the welting you may find the original color.

The CJ2A History page states, that, "Michigan Yellow 2A’s came with 3 different wheel colors. Pasture Green with a Michigan Yellow stripe, Americar Black with a Wake Ivory stripe and Sunset Red with an Americar Black stripe."   Since you found yellow as the bottom color, my guess is that the tub was Michigan Yellow.

Thanks for the body color info. As for engine color I assumed this thing was light blue from the factory; am I correct that to paint it factory correct it should go semi gloss black?

The engine was black from the factory.

Are you sure that the "light blue" is not gray, and that it is a CJ engine? Ford GPW ( wartime) engines were gray.    BW
It is NOT a Jeep Willys! It is a Willys jeep.

My engine was rebuilt by the military and painted orange.  It had a rebuild tag on it, I need to see if it is still attached, that was also orange and had a bomb on it and said something about Aberdeen I think.

The 804380 is the block casting number and indicates that it was a block cast in late 1952 or 1953 and used in CJ-3As as well as CJ-2A replacement blocks.  You can confirm that it was from a CJ-3A by looking for the engine number stamped on the flat boss in front of the head above the water pump.  A 3A engine number would begin with the prefix 3J followed by numbers.

So my head is dated 47, but the block is from a cj3.
Will the engine gasket set for a 2a work on the 3a block?(with the 2a head)?

I'm pretty sure this added a couple horsepower.

This is my current 3A project. I'm putting this one together for my wife. She loves it.   I wanted to do something a little different while transitioning from the red engine to the black drive train.

Probably not appropriate in this thread, but thought it might make a few guys smile. Just trying to have a little fun.

Tim
