Been admiring this build for some time.  Last fall I got a 46 CJ2A and have decided the L134 is just too tired and want to do this swap.  I've got leads on several Kubota engines and would like your opinion.  I've found a V2003 that seems pretty good but wondering if I should hold out for a V2203?

I've been trying to contact Greg at Overland Diesel and they're not answering emails on their website and don't show a phone number anymore.  Does anyone know their status?

Great job on your Kubota swap. Hoping to do either a VW TDI or a Kubota swap in 2023.
Thanks
Ron

Thanks Ron!

Feel free to reach out if you have any questions about the swap. Smile

Hi Daniel,

Still loving the swap. Drove it yesterday. Best thing I could have done to my Jeep was to put in the diesel engine. SmileSmileSmile

Hows the setup holding out Larry?  I'm still driving mine around almost every day.  I just picked up a beat up old early CJ5, and even though the F134 is running real good, in the back of my mind I keep thinking I should put a Kubota in there LOL

Hey Larry,
I just realized after reading this thread that I’m 1 year older than your ‘49 Jeep.
Great job on your Kubota swap. Hoping to do either a VW TDI or a Kubota swap in 2023.

Kubota Willys update:

Wow...I didn't realize how long its been since I posted an update!

Recently, I replaced the old Kayline standard top on my Willys. My dad had the old Kayline installed at the Kayline factory in 1974. The top was so old, dried out and shrunken that I ripped it by the back window several times in the last few years. I could not decide if I wanted to repair the top or replace it. I finally decided on a replacement top from Bestop.

I am VERY pleased how it came out. It was my first attempt at a top installation. I cranked my garage furnace up to 85 degrees and went for it. The instructions said it should take 3 hours....it took me 2 days!

I scavenged the door pockets from the old doors and put them on the new doors. Smile

Here are a few pics....

Kubota Willys update:

A couple of weeks ago, I put new shocks on the Jeep. Boy...even with the special shock tool, I had a heck of a time getting the rubber bushings compressed...ended up taking 3 large flat washers and cutting a slot in them...then I was able to slip them behind the top shock mount and use the tool to compress the rubber bushings...the bottoms were another story but I got it done.

On the 4th of July, we took the Jeep for a ride up in the mountains...first time I have had it out of the city since the conversion...boy did it pull nice on the hills! No speed records but not too bad....still loving the conversion. Smile

I decided to put on Lokar pedal pads on the clutch and brake pedals to match the Lokar throttle in my Jeep. They look nice and work great! :) Lokar part number is XBAG-6174 in case anybody is wondering.

That's also another possibility I didn't know of. After looking at the turbo diesel swap cost, I definitely know it's out of my build budget for now, maybe at a later time. However, I was thinking of sleeving the one cylinder that's gone bad instead of boring out to .040 or .050 over. Anyone know if this is a good or bad idea? This is my first build of any sorts and I want to do things right while keeping them affordable for a college student (myself).

Hey there, I just made this account in order to check if anyone is still active on this forum. I recently bought a heck of a project of a 1947 CJ2A from someone that unfortunately shouldn't have owned a toolbox let alone a welder. Anyways as I fix all of the previous owners horrible fabrication while rebuilding my Jeep I know i am facing a dilemma in regards to my engine. The previous owner had a Buick 225 Dauntlass V6 swapped in as well as an unknown tranny to me. But this genius of a previous owner did not tighten down the valve covers on the freshly rebuilt engine after he gave up on the project leading to water damage in one of the cylinders while it was sitting for 7+ years. Unknown whether I need to bore the engine to .040 since its already .030. But I came across this thread and am very interested in this turbo diesel swap. Is there anyway I could still get a list of the parts and cost from Larry?

Hi D1947CJ2A,

If you PM me with your email, I will send you my parts list. Smile

Kind regards
