So now that I'm done with the bulk of the work on the driver's side, it's time to work on the passenger side. Here are some before photos of it. After I get done with this side, I have to work on the back panel, then the body goes on a rotisserie for bottom end work.

So here are a few photos of recent progress on the driver's side. I finished that panel behind the door. The panel glue worked really well.

I removed the door and cut a chunk out of it to install mini bear claw latches. I am using the original door handles inside an out. but love these bear claw latches. I had to beat a few dents out of the door and fix a touch of rust on the lower edge, then finish grading the floor where I welded it in. Then I can turn the car around and do the other side.

Damn. That's cheap! My lunchtimes are usually at my desk doing work and hogging down a sandwich while a line of people forms at my door waiting for their stuff to get done.

Bob, you need to start going there at lunch time instead of after work.
I beat you out of a new combat wheel at summit for $18.75 today.

On your other Jeepster.

My wife had a 67 Mustang with a 200 L6.

stock with 3.23's and a 3 spd it got 19.5 MPG

I built an adapter to mount a Holley Weber 5200 progressive two barrel carb about 290 cfm on the stock built in manifold.

I got the 3/4 exhaust port splitter that Clifford Research sells and installed it with Fireplace mastic. Then put a Clifford 6 into 1 header ran a 2.25" mandrel bent exhaust to a single Cheap Turbo muffler

I made a fresh air intake that put a small K&N style Cone filter in front of the core support just under the lip of the hood.

Changed to a 68 adjustable vacuum and mechanical Distributor used an Accel small can super coil and Petronix magnetic trigger Accel Suppression yellow wires.  And a MSD-6A captive discharge spark box.

Electric fan

Electric fuel pump with Holley Pressure regulator set to 2.5PSI  Fram canister fuel filter

I then changed the tranny to a 1977 RUG OD 4 spd (18% in 4th) top loader Hurst style shift linkage.

The car then got 26 MPG commuting on country roads 85 miles every day. On two long flat free way trips the tanks in the valley in CA got 31 mpg.

I never opened up the engine. It had about 10K on it when I bought it.

She put over 175K on the build before we sold the car.

Hey Bob, This looks great. I've seen guys weld in panels and have another hold cold wet rags on the surrounding metal to wick the heat away. Maybe you can Sweet talk Mindy into that job. Kev

Sorry, I am having computer frets here. Easy repair if you don't over heat the panel and just weld a bit and let it cool, Hopefully you have a decent MIG welder that uses gas instead oF Flux core. I spent about a month doing the body work on my 3B. Flap sanders are great and I may have cheated a bit and used my old drywall tools to do the bondo. A 16' blade smoothes things out a bit better.

After work, Reunion work, property work, vacations, etc, I finally got some work done on the jeepster. I have the driver's side floor all the way in and am working on the panel behind the door. Here is a photo of what I'm working on now. I made this panel behind the door. I have a flange on it top and front and have it set up to button weld in. I was thinking seriously about gluing it into place. Has anyone ever done this? Obviously I would need to body fill after, but this is such an open area I'd hate to warp it with the heat from welding.

Here's some progress as of yesterday on the driver's side. Rockers are in. Now to tackle the floor panel and the panels inside that side panel before I button this side up.

I agree with you on the weld able primer I don't like it also. On areas I am concerned with I prime the flange with acid etch primer and remove the paint only where the spot welds will be with a dremel tool. It takes a little more time this way but I feel better about it.

What does everyone do for in between "lap" seems where you'd spot weld metal together? I use weld through primer but I do hate it...causes splatter and unclean welds. I was thinking of some of these wax like products that run into the gap between panels...

Here's a sweet little bender I got off craigslist yesterday. It's an old Niagara. Bends flanges mostly.
