Well 2 hours of tearing things apart including removing the drivers seat and trying to pull the fuse box out (by the way that can't happen LOL) and I found the break in the circuit. One of the wires going to the hidden shut off switch that has a soldered joint in it has no conductivity. So I replace that section of wire and put everything back together I should have the fuel pump safety circuit fixed.

Wonder whats next on the list of SURPRISE FOR MARK ?

Not that I ever will do another Jeep. But I know now that I would put serviceability much higher on the priority list when it comes to the electrical system if I did. More harness plugs and much more slack in the wires. I would much rather have to use zip ties to hold wires up off the floor then the short point to point wiring I have now. That while being installed seams fine but once everything is stuffed in there is near impossible to even see not to mention touch or work on.

Well live and learn.

At one time I had thought about a way to make the top of the cowl removable about now I am thinking how much easier that would have made so many things.

And yes purists if only had just restored CHUG everything would be simple. But as I have said many times. CHUG is a great big pile of misc. parts so not sure what I would have restored it back to.

Lots of work to do yet. Valves, Throttle doesn't want to return to idle, Oil leaks, water leaks, broken exhaust hanger, Mirrors can't rotate up enough, OD won't stay in Out under load, And general tune up. Hand throttle slips down in mount, figure out if Tach is accurate. And of course retorquing the head and some exhaust bolts.

On the good side. 40psi+ Oil pressure, 14V charging, 185° and fan works as it should, Steers with a little more effort then I thought it would be really smooth, Brakes a little farther towards the floor then I would like but with effort will easily lock all four up, HORNS WORK GREAT, Starts real easy once the dummy in the drivers seat remembers to flip the anti theft switch so the fuel runs. Wife said it took 15 minutes to get the tangles out of her hair from her first ride. Speedo is within 1-3MPH of my GPS speedo on the phone. Fuel Gauge works well.

28miles on the Odometer so far.

I will change out the break in oil tomorrow morning and start work on the things to fix.

My first cruise in is Friday night here in town exactly 13 blocks away LOL.

OH and it had no trouble hitting 60mph

I haven’t been keeping up with this long thread but really glad to hear your finally getting some drive time in your jeep.
Getting them to the completion/drivable stage is always a good thing !
We’re always glad to hear about what particular mods you feel have really paid off.

I got a chance to use the Air Horn Daughter and I were heading to the store to grab some stuff for dinner and this gal did not look at all my direction and pulled out right in front of us. I hammered the 11" drums and avoided her by about 10ft (we were doing 25mph when she pulled out) And I laid on the horn. Nothing like 90psi and 2) 130db electrics to get someones attention LOL.

Had a guy by the bridge tell me I had a really nice truck LOL

Break in oil dumped. I had a smear of black super fine metal on the magnetic drain plug about enough to make maybe 1/2 a pea. Oil of course had an overall dark color. I dumped it this soon as I had a huge amount of assembly lube in the engine pickling it since assembly.

Head retorqued as best I can. A couple of the Nuts are under things preventing the torque wrench from getting on them. So I used Box end wrench and gave them what felt like the same amount of travel the others were taking.

Seams like everything under under Chug is leaking something. I'm just going to take everything one step at a time and see what I can make better.

Going to be a while before everything is squared away I think.

Fun problem. In my front brake line I have a 10lb residual pressure valve. This thing has a fitting on each end that goes to a 3/8-24 inverted flare fitting like on a 3/16" brake line.

Only thing is on the input side I needed to convert from that to a -3 AN fitting for the Flex Hose I am running back to the Proportioning valve. And I have a leak in the fittings I have limited access to the mess but can't get them tight enough to stop leaking.

Looks like I'll have to do some major brake line rerouting. unless I can change the Residual valve fitting to a 1/8" NPT to -3 AN Male to male as the fitting where it goes into the barrel of the residual pressure valve is 1/8NPT.

OK it looks like Summit racing and Wilwood offer such a fitting. Looks like a warm up the Debt card again.

Found a couple more leaks in the Brake system. Again in the area of the Residual Pressure Valves.

I been trying to figure how to best (read easiest) work on these various problems. And I think what I am going to do is raise CHUG up 15-16" so I can sit on my butt and work under the tub. To do this it seams the easiest way I can come up with is going to be to create 4 "cribs" for the tires to set on.

I'll do this from 12" Long pieces of std+ 2x4 fir Granted wood is not cheap at this time. But I would have to make 10" high cribs to then put my Jack Stands on to get the Height needed. SO it seams safer to just make 15" tall Cribs and have them under the tires. They will be very stable and I can make them in sections so I don't have to raise Chug so much at once.

I'll make a Crib for my floor jack to sit on to reach the full height.

This will allow me to easily work on the Transfer Case outputs and the OD unit. As well as the Brake stuff thats along the Left frame rail.

The other stuff I have to deal with it looks like I will pull the left fender to more easily access the Front Residual Pressure Valve, Manifold Bolts, Valve adjustment.

Well I knew it wouldn't be easy.

Then I can get back to the stuff needed to actually "finish" Chug

Final tuning the engine.

Cut finish and install the Wood bed strips.
Install the Console and Radios as well as make mounts for the Speakers.
Final polish on the paint and Wax.

Then I can get to work on the Aluminum Hard top.

I have ramps made from railroad ties cut at an angle.
Sure they are heavy, but they are about as solid as wood gets.
Screen door handles screwed to the sides makes them easier to move.
Good for 10-12 inches of lift, stable and they don't mind being left outside.

Been thinking on my brake system and I think I have some big changes to make.

1. Move Residual Pressure Valves to connect to the Banjo fittings on the Master Cylinder
(this way they keep the whole brake line pressurized so as not to bleed back)

2. Move the Line lock Solenoid to the frame right before the Front Brake line Tee
(this greatly shortens the front brake line as it is currently mounted on the frame behind the drivers seat. This will also make the line lock more effective.)

Going to be a bit harder to do this compared to when I did the brake lines the first time while the Tub was off.

Well after a flurry of text messages yesterday from the two guy at work that do dispatching. I some how ended up going what looked like another big fat pay check to having to night pave tonight. So I got today off. And will have Thursday off. SO No big pay check but a little more shop time.

I hustled my butt off and got the rest of my 2x4 X 15" tall "cribs" to put CHUG on top of so I can more easily work on the Brake lines and Transfer Case output. By raising up CHUG 15" I should have enough room to sit on my butt and work on the problems at shoulder height.

I was looking for a Shop sized POSTER of what a Vacuum Gauge tell you and I got to worrying about the needle fluctuating and with the one loud valve tick wondering if I had a stuck valve.

But running it today the needle only vibrated about 1/2 a point at a 600rpm idle so along with the note card test on the tail pipe its obvious the valves are closing properly. This makes me happy.

Never found a shop sized poster of the Vacuum gauge. So I'm going to just print one up. Maybe make it in 4 sections.

I'm also looking for a new Dwell Tach but the few new ones do not impress me.

My Sear Craftsman engine analyzer does not seam to be showing the correct RPM.  And my back up Afton doesn't work at all.
