Anyone have install/service instructions for these hubs?  I looked around on google, and found one pic so far, exploded diagram, but no parts description.

Pic of hubs.. getting ready to clean them up.

Really not a lot of technical expertise needed.

I did have this in my links:

Looking through that, I am missing the spindle nuts and lock ring for spindle nuts.  Any idea where to find these?

Attached pdf here.

No new parts sources for these that I know of so you need to find them used.  Unfortunately, that usually means a complete set of used hubs.  Also, as noted by the different part numbers on your first post, there are two different lock nut OD's.  I suspect all the early hubs use the small diameter one.

Here's a photo of the two lock nuts-both of these pretty chewed up by people that apparently couldn't get the set screws out or didn't know they were there.

I've got one spindle nut.  Think it's the one that goes againist bearings.  It's pretty well shot, threads are stripped.

Looks like I need a washer, then inner nut, lock washer, then outer nut.  Going to need some dimensions, or I can pull the hub off the jeep and figure out how far the outer nut has to be to engage the nylon blocks(used for auto feature)

If all else fails, I can remove the nylon blocks, install regular spindle nuts, and use it as a standard locking hub.

Think I'm going to try and use a spare set of regular spindle nuts and turn the OD down, drill set screws and spanner holes.

The one nut I do have measures 2.115.

Pics of nut I have, think it is an inner.

Spare standard spindle nut.

Got everything apart, cleaned, greased, and together.

Painted hubs.  Clearcoated the outer hub and knob.

From what I can tell, front spindles are 1.625-16 thread.  This seems to be a very common spindle nut size, so I may be able to pick up some nuts that will work.

Looks like it.

Stopped at the junkyard today, and they had a set of lock matic still on a Jeep! To bad they won't sell them, someone wants the whole Jeep. I left my number.

What did you use to clean up the brass and aluminum parts? I'm looking for a faster way as I seem to spend a lot of time on these areas. Thanks. Yours look great BTW. Nice job.

I've been using a glass bead sandblaster at work.  First I degrease and scrub the crap out of it, the blaster won't take off the thick stuff.  Was worried about using it on aluminum, but it does a very nice job.  Works pretty quick too.  Shot some clear coat paint on it when I was done.

Ordered a set of warn spindle nuts.  Not the right ones, but close enough I can get them to work.
Warn #32720 or 27997

Welded up the notches on the outer nuts, then turned them smooth.  Used an extra spindle, bearings, and hub to set everything.  Had to cut down the width on the inner nut, so outer nut sits at the right height for the nylon blocks(auto feature).  Didn't use a spacer between nut and bearing, nut is hardened.

Outer nut width was 2.170.  This is about .050 bigger than the one old nut I had.  Fits nice inside nylon blocks, and still room so spring for blocks doesn't rub the hub.

Still have to drill 2 holes for spanner wrench, and tap 3 holes for set screws.  But should have a working hubs when done!

Test hub and bearings

One nut with welded up notches, another started machining.

Nut set.  Still need extra holes for outer nut.

Drilled 2 spanner wrench holes, and tapped 3 set screw holes(8-32) in each outer nut.  This project should be done!  Back on the shelf, until I have jeep ready for them.

Pic of finished outer nuts.

Great information in this thread.  I inherited a slightly modified '46 CJ2A without having the background information or manuals.  Every hour of working on this project opens new avenues of research.  Finally spotted the M3B on the Warn hub face.  Google took me right here.  First big step forward.  I still need to figure out how to dismantle the outer pieces that lock and unlock the hubs.  My big question (because the large axle nut only took finger pressure to remove) is what are the torque specs to tighten this nut as I re-install everything?  I'm guessing 50'-lbs.  Many thanks
