I'd like to put my Spen trailer back to stock form, so I could use a landing leg if anyone has one. I have nothing to trade, so I'd need to purchase one, or if anyone out there has one they'd like to reproduce, that would be fine too!

Just registered to the forum. Found this post because I too am looking to either find a landing leg or need to refurbish my SPEN landing leg.
Did you ever find one? Care to share what you did?

Sorry to hear that. I guess refurbishing will be the most logical answer...

I could use measurements for one. I'm missing the whole thing. By the way, welcome to the page!

I pulled out of the driveway with the leg locked in the lowered position. Obviously it wasn't good. Not the first time its happened. I can see that now that I've taken it apart. I've pulled the gusset off the leg and put a grinding / sanding wheel to it. I'm hoping a welder can fill the split and reattach the gusset. I'll get you some measurements tomorrow... This look like a Bantam landing leg, not a Spen!

Bob,
I think that is a Spen leg based on other photos I've seen. At the very least, its definitely not a Bantam. Bantam's part that hits the ground goes out further and looks more like a boot shape. Bill

Hey Bill, the Spen legs I've seen look more like this. They are more of a sheet metal "cone" for lack of a better word. Maybe 12 gauge or 10 gauge.

I thought my leg was original equipment. Spen could have more than one type of landing leg...
But I'm not sure anymore...

Onibaba, yes, I'd say they probably did. What does your tailgate setup look like? Mine I think it the older style.

My tailgate hinges. Thin gauge steel. Comes up about 3/4 high i.e. not flush with the top of the bed...

Here is a picture of the inside of the Landing Leg Housing.
There are two round piping attached for the Locking Pin to line up and fit into the holes of the Gusset Plate.
I'm sure that no one other than the factory would bother welding that for a modified Landing Leg. It would be much easier to fashion a leg from scratch based on the other design. I think this is a factory leg... Any how, I'm going to get it welded tonight... Edited by Onibaba - 30 June 2017 at 2:45pm |

Its definitely not Bantam...similar but yet different from a Converto Trailer leg
Checkout about page 4 of jpet's Spen Trailer - The "Shadow" Project post that I just quoted to bring it to the top (my deployed firewall and access is blocking some pics) but he has good images of the SPEN Leg. There is a similar leg on a SPEN posted on eWillys on May27, 2015: http://www.ewillys.com/category/trailer/page/6/ Edited by 48cj2a - 30 June 2017 at 12:32pm |

Bob you might also be able to PM jpet in forum. I think he sold his trailer, but is real helpful, and those plans are on digital to make a leg. Somewhere.
Hey Bob3B, just saw this question. Only have a minute because I'm working another trailer thing. and don't have time to fully search your issue, but here's a starting point. A few posts in (start 10/2/16) I talk about bearings and seals early on. I think I put numbers in text, not just in the missing pictures (Photobucket issue I don't have time to deal with right now). As far as the landing leg goes, I'll answer a bit there but your key Internet search words are: "shadow project", Spen jpet Good luck, hope my missing photos haven't made the whole narrative worthless. Good luck. These are awesome trailers. :) Edited by Dave Pete - 06 July 2017 at 11:55am |

I put the old "seals" back on and they really seem fine. My Spen has a 5 on 4.25 bolt pattern...found a tire and rim for spare at a yard sale today.
