Hey everyone,

Got myself a new project/Christmas gift, my first jeep. It’s a 48 CJ2A. Traded a motorcycle for it.

This best thing was I was able to drive it home (13 mi), although it was a little scary thanks to really old re-tread tires.
Very little rust, seems solid so far and has a really good top. It’s been converted to what the PO believes is a straight 6 Studebaker engine. He also installed LED brake lights and 11” brakes.
Fuel tank is of unknown origin and bolted between the fender wells. I just picked up a good looking stock tank and will switch it soon. It also desperately needs a proper steering wheel.

Have a long list of things to work on and will update with more pics soon.

You can see in the first pic the hood was modified to fit the taller Studebaker (?) radiator.

Clap Nice catch, and Welcome to the Forum! The Studebaker Six swap was, in its day pretty popular, and there are still a few running around.
You'll find soon enough (like now) that we like pictures, so give us more!LOL  BW
It is NOT a Jeep Willys! It is a Willys jeep.

Happy Trails! Good-bye, Good Luck, and May the Good Lord Take a Likin' to You!

You have entered the dragon! Another studewillys. I have a friend who drives his fast and furious. Wouldn't want to leave home without him along. Great fun you will have and much to learn. Welcome. Maybe you can hook up with International Flat Fender group out there in Washington. It's great fun to go Jeeping with like minded people. John

Welcome to the madness.

Interesting headlight rings. I'm not sure I can place those.

Anyone?

I saw on a build page either here or on the 3A page, headlights like these.  The headlight buckets were moved out to  make room for the radiator or something behind the grill.

I noticed a lack of tool box under the pass seat and it looks like the steering tube mount is upside down. That thing is cool though. Nice score.

Your close to Richard Darr at Washougal Classic Jeeps he can be a great resource for anything you need.

I warn you do not call him if your in a hurry he can talk about Willys for days on end. He handled the rebuild on my engine as well as doing the rebuild on my gear boxes himself. A truly great guy to get to know if you are into Willys.

And theres a number of us close to you (I am about 50 miles south in Silverton OR) so your not far from friends.

Progress!!
Thanks to local expert Richard in pointing me in the right direction. It looks like one of the PO raised the height of the steering column by moving the steering box forward, in the process creating this.

So after doing some research it looks like an 'early' drag link, now I just need to find its replacement.

Cool jeep!  Ive never seen one with a straight 6 installed but I bet its got a lot more power!  Can you still get parts for a Studebaker engine?

48CJ2 if Richard doesn't have a drag link laying around I have one that I believe would be rebuildable  the 48 Willys was driving and steering pretty good when it was taken off. I am converting my whole steering system to a Saginaw 525 manual box and Ididit classic steering column with Borgenson U Joints and such so I sure won't be using it. A half rack of Bud Light would cover the value.

Since i had to rebuild a motor (stude was smoking) I might as well rebuild the correct one.  Went down to Eugene (2+hr drive) and picked up a good looking 134. So tear down begins!
So far internals look good but broke exhaust manifold.
