I was making good progress patching the passenger side floor but I kept running in to thin spots. So I kept adding patches. While contemplating my 5th patch I decided to cut it all out and replace each floor pan. I should have done this in the first place. Anyhow it should end up working well I think.

I have more....

I inherited all of my dad's tools when he passed away about 10 years ago. They don't get used often but its sure nice to have them when you need them.

He didn't always buy the best quality. one of the clamps broke in half when I tightened it. But he did buy a lot of tools.

I think I am making good use of them.

Ken came by to help today.

We got the drivers floor pan removed.
Ken fabricated a new A pillar for the drivers side.
I worked on patching the drivers step.

THE KIDS ARE BACK TO SCHOOL !!! YEAH !!!

Seriously though I found a couple hours to work on the tub today. I finally have the passenger floor repaired to an acceptable standard. However I did not like how the step/sidewall repair turned out so I redid the passenger side today. I cut it way back to where there was good metal to weld the patch too. This is something I have recently learned. Don’t just try to take out the bare minimum. Cut back further so you ensure you have good metal to bond to. I am sick of blowing through paper thin metal.

I’m also done with marathon build days. Going forward I plan to just work on the jeep a few hours at a time. It’s supposed to be a hobby right!?!?

The work your doing is coming out great. It took me almost four years to do my 46. Some days are 18 hours long, some 18 minutes. Just do it when you want to, not when you feel you have to. But, don't stop or quit and give up. Otherwise, you will get someone like me that will offer next to nothing to take it off your hands. 🤔 These days, I'm putting in eight hour days out in the barn, working on these things. I still enjoy it, but even I have to walk away some days.

I put in another “18 minutes” today. Ok maybe more like 90 minutes.

I ground down the weld on the passenger side patch and cut out the drivers side step/sidewall.

92889: What tool(s) are you using to cut out the old sheet metal? Your cuts are quite clean and precise.

I am using thin cut off wheels attached to my angle grinder or my air sander. I actually prefer the air sander. You can get in tighter spaces because it is smaller and has no guard. Also you can vary the speed with how much you pull the trigger whereas the electric angle grinder is big and just runs flat out.

One step closer.

This is the front of the drivers side wheel well behind the drivers seat.
