Crazy question, but are you dead certain that your frame and body are square and straight?  When I look at the pictures of the original condition on Page 1 I can see the cowl and tub slopes versus the frame and the frame does not look like it sets level either. Obviously you have done a ton of work to replace and repair any collapsed metal but I have to ask.  I can see that the springs are unevenly compressed due to the shackle angles.  Are all the shackles swinging free?  A stiff shackle could prevent a spring from flattening out when flexing (possibly hiking up a side).

Those are good points.
All the shackles are new and lubed. They appear to swing freely.
I believe the frame is true. We took a lot of time to get it straight.

But honestly I’m not 100% sure of anything. But I think the springs are likely 70 years old and worn out.

I got some more electrical done today.
I managed to get the marker lights and tail lights retrofitted to accept 6v LED bulbs.

That was easier than I thought. I actually surprised myself when the bulbs lit up!

Just lights, upholstery and the new springs and this thing will be on the trail! 🙂

Great progress!  Where did you get those led bulbs?

Those lights are very bright!

I will usually paint the insides of light housings white to make them more reflective.

Painting the inside white is a great idea.
I had not considered that.

I got the bulbs on Amazon...,
Unfortunately they are slightly too big to fit in the dash light housing.

Tail lights and stop light are now working. Still need to figure out how/where to wire the flasher for signals.

Also I got my horn working but it’s really weak.

Also, I have ordered the new springs. They are being manufactured locally at Dendoff springs. Should be ready in about 4 weeks.

I just got the headlights wired and Amazon delivered the glass light housings. Perfect timing. I am still waiting for the LED H4 bulbs to arrive.

My 16 year old daughter upholstered the seat bottoms this evening so we just got them installed. I can tell she is super proud. They came out perfectly!

I'm sure it's covered in this thread somewhere but I don't think I have enough years left to read thru is all so I apologize. How did you go about getting your headlights recessed? I have a 48 2A but I like the look of having the headlights behind the grill.

BB,

It’s a military style grill from a 1942-1945 Ford GPW or Willys MB, the original jeeps that were later developed in to the CJ2A. Then you need military light support brackets and headlight buckets. The military style grill is interchangeable with the civilian grill with no modifications to the frame, fenders or hood. My Jeep came with a civilian style grill but I bought the military style from a guy in Oregon who had it in his barn as a wall hanger.

This video shows the evolution.

I hope that helps.

Military grills have 9 slots while civilians have 7 slots. To my knowledge, which can be limited
