I used some threaded rod to spread the yolk open and get the sides parallel so I can install the U joints.
It took a few tries but I got one done. I’ll work on the other next time I get a chance. |

I think I have solved the rear driveshaft issue.
With the transmission blocked up so it sits level 1/2 the splines on the rear drive shaft are exposed. (Not good) I went digging in the shed and found another piece of driveshaft that looks like it’s the right size. The shaft is also the correct diameter (like the front shaft). I’ll clean it up and put it together to see how it all looks. Just like the rest of the Jeep, I am doing it twice before it’s right! 😬 The fat driveshaft was on the original yellow Jeep but clearly it’s not right. No big surprise there. Jeep #2 just paid for itself again. A new rear shaft is $300 USD |

I don't think a rear drive shaft is supposed to be the small diameter. You might be better off with just a longer front yoke for that rear shaft--assuming you can find one.

I think it’s correct based on the diagrams I have seen. Also based on what I have seen what’s available for sale online. There are also heavy duty ones for sale as well. Maybe that’s what the fat one is. Regardless, it is clear that it is too short. I think the skinny one will be ok. Looking forward to getting it installed. Hopefully it fits properly.

The NOS rear drive shaft appears to be at least slightly larger in diameter than the front. Maybe it's just my eyes.

We got some brake lines run. It’s trickier than I thought it would be. Did not have the proper straps so I have temporarily used zip straps.
Still waiting for the new master cylinder to arrive. Edited by 92889 - 15 Sep. 2018 at 4:20pm |

I got the block cleaned up and primed today.
I also got all the ancillary engine parts primed. Sandblasting revealed a huge crack in my thermostat housing.
