Good from far but far from good.

Actually I’m really happy with it. Again I’m not going for perfection. I’m building a jeep that I can use and not worry about too much.

What I find funny is the paint manufacturer’s recommended applications which include cranes, trailers and garbage trucks.

I guess that means it can take a beating. I hope so.

The body is removed once again.

I have it sitting upside down on a dolly.
Now I can finish some minor mods on the underside and get the bottom painted.

Once I finish work on the underside I can flip it over and finish the top and sides.

Did the primer sand easily?

I have not tried yet. The tech at Endura said to wipe it clean first with isopropanol, then a light scuff with 180-220 grit paper. She said it should be fine. If I were to do it over I would have used a more forgiving primer. I did not intend to paint outside the topcoat window, but life gets in the way. All the other parts that are painted were done inside the topcoat/primer time frame so no issues there.

Are you spraying paint inside your garage? How do you keep it so clean?

I give it all a thorough blow with my leaf blower. Then I let everything settle. I have a large fan built in the wall at the back of the shop which I switch on and give the room another go with the blower but aimed towards the fan to suck it all out. Seems to work well so far.  When I paint I leave the fan on and the garage door opened 11/2”. So far no issues. I used to tarp the room but can’t be bothered now.

I had another productive jeep day today.

Before I removed the tub from the frame it was obvious that I needed to make more room for the brake master cylinder.

So I did some trimming.

Then boxed the area back together.
There should be lots of room for the brake system now.

Once repairs were finished I cleaned the underside of the body with isopropanol, gave it a good sanding with 180 grit paper, blew all the dust off and cleaned it again with isopropanol. Now I’m ready to re-prime and paint the underside.
The primer has been on there for a few months now and it’s fully cured which is why I had to scuff it up. It sanded well with no issues.

I got up early this morning and laid down a fresh layer of primer and 2 topcoat layers of the Endura 2 part epoxy on the underside of the tub.

I’ll let it cure for a week then flip it over so I can apply body filler to touch up the sides.

This thing may be painted by the end of August.

Kawasaki Green! And nice job on the body trim. I've got a 2-chamber master cylinder to install in my 2A and was thinking that it's gonna be a tight fit.

It is a tight fit to get a larger master cylinder in there. It’s probably been the most frustrating component of this entire project so far. Maybe other people have a seamless install with Herm’s kit but mine was anything but, and that was with the body removed. It’s well documented on pages 13-16 if you’re interested.

I decided to fix up all the scratches and scuffs on the frame. I’ve been installing and removing all the parts by myself and the paint on the frame has taken a beating. The shift levers and steering column got scratched when the body slid down them the first time I put it on. When it’s time for final assembly I’ll have a few helpers so I can ease all the pieces together without gouging the frame paint.

I picked up the seats from the sandblaster today.
Gave them a few minor repairs and got them ready for paint along with a few other parts.

I’ll get up early tomorrow and spray them before it gets too hot.

I also finally made a decision about tires. That was tougher than I thought. I really wanted to go chunky full off-road like BF Goodrich KM3’s but I know that most my driving will be on local paved roads with just the occasional off road adventure. I have ordered Yokohama Geolander A/T. Lots of good reviews. Pretty quiet on the road but still decent off road capability. I’ll go out next week to have them mounted on my rims.

good job and nice color, if it glows in the dark you might not need lights

I modified the dolly and got the body flipped upright.
I spent 4 hours this morning cleaning the previously primed areas with isopropanol then scuffing all the cured primer areas with 120 grit. I got the first bit of filler applied. Time to sand.
