Wow, this thing is looking really good!  And it sure is easy to mix up those backing plates.

Some goodies arrived from Willys Acres today.

I prepared some more footman loops and the park brake lever for paint.

I plan to reuse my fuel gauge and speedometer. I got the rust off them as well so I can paint them to match the other gauges I purchased.

I only had 1/2 of the ring that holds down the seal around the steering column at the floor. So I made the other half.

And finally I made a new collar to hold the gear shift lever dust cover down. The one I had was hacked up.

Once I get the bumperettes, hand crank, headlight parts and air cleaner prepared I’ll be able to paint all these parts.

$100 Canadian from Willys Acres in Ontario.
Shipping was cheap too.
It’s my first time buying from them. Sonja who took the order was great. Highly recommend them.

I woke up early Sunday morning and snuck out to the workshop.
My friend Andy gave me a sheet of rubber to make seals so I cut some up this morning.

Got some more tasks completed. I made the ring to hold down the boot around the transfer case shift levers. I sandblasted the OD off the new light buckets. I also got the air cleaner stripped for painting. The marker lights are now broken down and prepped for paint. I was going to paint them black but I think I’ll just clear coat them.

Paint day tomorrow for all the small parts.

Your posts always get me thinking I need to own a sandblast cabinet. But then I'd need a compressor with more than the 6.5 cfm that mine generates.

Great work on the Green Machine!

Yes the sand blast cabinet is nice for the smaller stuff. And your right it’s only as good as your compressor. You may recall that I upgraded my compressor.  I got very lucky at the time as I bought my new compressor ‘second hand’ for about 1/2 the retail price but it appeared to me to have never been used prior to me. Also the moisture separator is a must, at least in our climate. I used to drive 45 minutes one way to U-Blast a do it yourself place. But that was $1 per minute. I’m sure I’ve recovered the cost of the cabinet and compressor by now.

Baby steps but I’m getting closer to being on the road. I just dropped another $350 at Walcks for parts but hopefully that was my last order.

I got more parts painted today.

I’m running out of parts to restore.
Final assembly starts Friday. I know that sounds good but I’m probably still 6 months away from being on the road.

I picked away at the jeep a bit today. Got the firewall grommets in and screwed on covers to fill the holes for the trailer light socket and pto lever access hole.

I also tried my hand at stenciling. But I screwed it up the first 2 times. I rushed and put on too much paint too quickly. Unfortunately it bled around the stencil cut out. Fortunately I caught it in time and was able to rub it off with some thinner. I got some advice from Andy and now I’m just ‘dusting’ the paint on with one pass, allowing it to dry before dusting another pass of paint. I’m 4 passes in so far but it’s working much better this way.

12 dusting of white paint over a 12 hour period. Patience pays off.

Looks great; patience pays off. Wonder how they shot these in Toledo in 1947?

Epic jeep day!
We got the tub mounted to the frame. Passenger fender is on. We were going to put the drivers fender on but thought better of it till we get some work done in the engine bay. Fuel line run. Steering column support and steering column floor seal is on. Oil pressure line run and oil pressure gauge installed.

It’s pouring rain here today so I tried to get pictures from inside the shop. When the sun reappears I’ll roll it out for some proper pictures.

Thanks Tate.

I did a little more work this evening.
Footman loops installed. My 9 year old son helped me with that. I taught him how a ratchet and socket work.

Then I got the covers and boots installed around the levers. The 2 port rubber boot on the transfer case levers is goofy. I don’t think it’s going to hold up for very long. Just a hunch. The gear shift boot seems good.

Finally I got ground and power attached to the start switch and I mounted the voltage regulator to the passenger fender.

Picking away a bit at a time.

Every contemporary T-case shift boot rubber I've seen looks and feels like junk. Does anyone make a quality piece with a thicker wall?

The rubber is plenty thick but the geometry of it makes it super stiff. I would not be surprised to see it tear after a few dozen shifts in and out of 4WD or Hi and Low. Time will tell.

My daughter has been using 1/2 of one of my garage bays as a gym. She asked for more room so I spent the afternoon moving all the restored parts over to the other bay (with the exhaust fan) where I’ve been working on the jeep. It should
be fine as I only have a few pieces left to paint and that can wait till all these parts are assembled.

I put the fuel tank on the bench and filled it with fuel. So I guess today is fuel tank integrity testing day. It leaked a bit around the drain threads so I removed the plug and added some fuel tolerant thread sealer to it. I considered filling it with water to test it but I thought I may as well fill it with fuel and see if it reacts with the fuel tank liner I coated it with. So far so good but I’ll leave it overnight. If it’s all good I’ll drain it tomorrow and install the tank.

Today is Thanksgiving north of the border. My sister lives in the US and calls it “Canadian” Thanksgiving. Oddly she does not refer to Thanksgiving at her place as “American” Thanksgiving.

Happy Thanksgiving 🙂
