....although, just now looking at the pressure plate pic the bottom of one spring does look displaced...hhhhmmmm.
ETA: Nope. Just the pic. Everything looks in order. (nuts) Edited by mbullism - 14 Aug. 2023 at 4:49pm |

O.k., so that part was uneventful. Decided to separate things at the front of the bell as a previous owner had already air chiseled access to the two top bolts through the floor (wtf)... the damage already done I took full advantage
. . First glimpse at the clutch reveals nothing out of order . Off to harbor freight to buy yet another engine stand... this thread egagement on cheap bolts may be how they do it over there, but that doesn't fly here- . . So disassembly of the clutch reveals more nothing... I mean, it only had about 4k miles on it before the ambulance thing. For the moment this stuff will be going back on the shelf in case the vibe is still there after it's replacement. . and so we move forward- . |

I'm still trying to figure out that "when I had a non contact run in with an ambulance" thing!

So this as a "project" thread has slowed a bit, mostly due to lack of time and having gotten to the reliable driver stage. I WAS doing just that, daily driving about 50+ miles round trip to work earlier this summer, when I had a non contact run in with an ambulance
Again, time intercedes, and apparently the only way to HAVE time is to MAKE time ...day 1 of my summer vacation, sitting on pins and about to be picked. The clutch is suspect, but not the known vibration cause... yet. While we're out doing clutch, rear main seal (and internal inspection) and if all is copasetic, an easy valve adjust and stuffing it back in... and I get to turn the "project" lamp back on in the garage |

I am looking at the absolute mess that is in the rear corners INSIDE the bed on Plowshare. OUCH! Whoever did that should have been told they could never own a jeep ever again. What Blasphemy! May the spirit of John North Willys haunt him forever!
I think you have done the best repair that you could under the circumstances without a complete rebuild of the rear corners. I am curious about how you patched the holes on the inside. |

Somewhere in my unknown PO history probably best left unknown, a previous refurb was done with the corner bow pocket delete option. Fast(?) forward, some moron decided to "reinstall" pockets apparently using little more than a masons hammer and a cold chisel The rear corners have been skim coated so welding new pockets really is not an acceptable option just now, but really wanted to be able to use the summer top... bolting was the best worst option. I feel kinda dirty The hex heads are just mock up...the carriage bolts in black are awful, lol, but it'll work short term (all repairs are temporary until such a time as they work, and (gulp) become permanent) . As more of a tinkering , finally got around to disassembling an original mirror to replace the glass (glass at the top, held together with duck tape to be used as a pattern). If everything goes to usual plan I should get around to getting a new piece of glass cut come mid october Edited by mbullism - 29 May 2023 at 4:22pm |

So credit goes to metalshaper... the jig is basically a take off on Brian's beugler setup. Once I had the rigging setup and adjusted just so, it took less time to stripe three wheels than to clean the striping tool. Easy peasy, and more importantly, reproduceable results . . .

Well, been a while since my life has allowed "progress", but I've been threatening to paint a set of wheels for three years now... while not exactly the strip/fill/repair/ paint with hardener through a gun on original wheels I had envisoned, I'm counting it
Recently picked up a set of gently used super traxions mounted on repop rims. I am sort of at the mercy of the factory primer over who knows what metal prep, and front side only existing yellow paint, but the wheels are in good nick and I wasn't gonna break them all the way down anyway. Will be nice to have a set I don't mind bashing on Wipe down with gloss cutter, quick rub with a scotch brite pad cleaned up with gloss cutter, black primer followed by allis chalmers orange... second coat after 24hrs and cure for the week, and next weekend we'll try out the beugler i picked up and then get those white spokes off- . .

Well, Mike, with the salad that Ol' Red is, I'm not too worried about a birth date. As far as I know, the axles are original and so is the grille. The flywheel and housing are the same. The case of the transmission is original but the internals were put in by me soon after I bought the jeep because of the ol' jumpin' out of second routine. The transfer case is new and has the larger intermediate shaft in in. Delco alternator out of God knows what. Eleven inch '47 Jeep truck brakes...because I want her to stop on command and not half way through a busy intersection. Brand new at the time M-38 frame put in pretty soon after I bought her because the original frame was folded up pretty bad on the front left corner. Tub is MD Juan except for the original grille. The seat frames were out of another jeep I bought for parts, and I'm so glad I did at the time.(bought for $500 and sold for $500 after removal of valuable parts.) So...not really worried about a birthday...just keeping you entertained.
I still follow your build, but like you said, life does have a way of getting first dibs on time. Stay safe, Mike... |
