OK, how many of you have ever had to make "curtains" for a vehicle? I found this cool vintage material to make curtains for the rear windows of the yellow van.

I would like to do that with mine too. My green one is going to be more utilitarian than shag. My plan for it is a cruise / swap meet vehicle.

Cool, I trailer my 2a with my clapped out E250. It’s my home away from home on a lot of weekends at motorcycle events and Jeep gatherings. Not very shagadelic, more utilitarian.

Maybe. I think that would be cool. The yellow one has a 440. Towing with that one would be an expensive proposition. I am curious what the gas mileage will be like with the fuel injected small block in the green one. Still working on "drivability" issues with it. BTW, "wire it up, fire it up" and "self learning/tuning"...not so far . I probably shouldnt be so hard on it, this was not just an engine swap, I threw a lot of new stuff at it, mainly...everything.

Nice, do you plan to tow your jeep with the van?

It is at the trans shop right now. It moved forwards and backwards, but would not shift. I had the trans rebuilt and it sat in the garage for nearly a year. Hopefully, it is just a little sticky from sitting dry for that long. As soon as that is figured out, the shop that built the engine can put the final tune in the EFI. then, the fun will start.

Congrats Doug
Sure wish I was home to work on something...Just did a Skype Call with one of my Co-Workers and they are now off until April 7th - I could really put a dent in some projects with a Month off to work on stuff. For now I'm sitting in my room collecting Per Diem and updating the Bantam Page and and a huge refresh of my PTO page (a few more factory documents to upload and it will be done).

Well, it started and moved under its own power for the first time in over two years. Still some details to work out, but it was good to hear it run.

Back in the late 1970s and into the 1980s my dad ran a couple of those old tradesman Vans...I spent many a weekend riding shotgun with him as his helper/gopher...seeing yours brings it all back again...thanks for posting....

I Dig It. Amazing they both survived in such great condition. We used to carpool to school with a family who's dad was a Chrysler engineer with a corporate lease. They had 5 kids, so they always got a van. Their dad asked us for input on the colors one year. I said black with a red interior, very groovy. He said the only way to get that color combo was in a Street Van. Their mom would have NO part of that. He liked the idea though ordered an Aspen in those colors. So instead of a black van, he ordered green. The dealership screwed up the order. When they went to pick it up, it was candy apple green with an aqua blue interior. It was hideous. He was in a pinch so he had to accept it. I think the street van would have been less embarrassing to chauffeur grade school kids around in. Bill

Yes, the 408 went in to the green van at the beginning of this thread. It had a 360 2 bbl when I got it. I could never make the thing run right. I went through several carbs (Holley 2 bbls), even broke down and took it to a carb "guru", still just never ran right. Then one day it was sitting there running and started making a terrible noise. Something fell through the engine and poked a hole in the #1 piston. Then the rebuild got out of control to where it is now ; 490 horse, 520 lbs.

That's a different van....it's REALLY shagadelic around Doug's place.
That 360 will be a boss! Doug's gonna get to know ALL his gas stations in the area! Cool stuff !! |
