A few weeks ago I would have hauled it over to your place and given it to you!! However since finding the donor vehicle and getting both stripped down, the vision is becoming clearer. Hard to believe that the Chev truck chassis is the same width as the wagon. We ended up cutting off the whole front end of the Chev truck and getting ready to weld it to the wagon chassis. and yes, nofender and I have been in communication. Hope you and your family are happy and healthy!!

Hey, what's going on here? Are you and nofender starting a new club? Good luck with your new project, keep us posted... How come no one ever dumps things like this in my lap?

Just an update: After putting 1,000 miles on Brer Rabbit this summer everything is working as it should. All 1,000 miles were within 20 miles of home, LOL..Top speed is 45mph and the temp slowly rises to 200 if I keep that speed too long. Brakes will be readjusted this winter along with re-torquing everything we can reach. In our search for the next project, we wanted a Willys pickup, but we had a 53 wagon dumped in our lap. I was a little surprised it had an L134 and T90. Thought we were going to get a Hurricane. It really doesn't matter since we also found a running 2003 Chev pickup 4wd 350 with 51,000 for $500. We'll use the entire drive train from the pickup and keep it 4wd.

What an amazing transformation, quite a change from the rusty project sitting in a briar patch pictured on the first page.

From the "Brier Patch" to an OD Jewel, for sure. Great job guys! You should be very proud of this WILLYS resurrection. I hope you have many happy miles in "Brer Rabbit". Enjoy! |

Well, All I can say is that we're in the final stretch, and how exciting it is to finally be putting Brer Rabbit together for (hopefully) the final time. For all of you just starting their rebuilds, this took us just a month over four years working one night a week (4-5 hours) and we enjoyed every minute. We only missed a handful of nights the entire four years. (Great wives!!!) The final cost came to just over $7,800, while using every original part possible. the engine was toast!!! ($1,000). I can't imagine what this would have cost if Jason wasn't a metal fabricator. This build started as a military tribute vehicle but ended up as a cj2a with minimal mods and just my service numbers on the hood. I love it !!!!!! As an old veteran, it stands tall as a tribute to my dad who died one year short (age 92) to see its completion. He was a Navy Seabee stationed in Pearl Harbor in 1945. This vehicle will get passed from me to Jason and then his daughter and her mate, who can easily turn it back to its original cj2a glory. We live in a small CT beach town(10,000) on the ocean, but we are half way between NYC and Boston and grow to 33,000 in the summer, so we have bolted and secured everything imaginable eagerly awaiting their summer arrival. We have no garage, so this vehicle was built to stay outside in the summer and be stored in the winter. It's been a great experience working with my son-in-law and couldn't have had a better partner. Actually, working only one night a week gave me time to research and purchase any parts needed for the next week and while I was envious of all the folks that started and completed their builds in weeks or months, it was a great mind game during my retirement. I'm sure we will have a couple more build updates but for the most part we're ready to "take it down the road"... Dana & Jason

Well, we finally got around to finishing the wiring and after several false starts have all our LED lights up and running. We ended up wiring the LEDs so we can have just running on or headlights with the running lights as turn signals. While buttoning up the dash and firewall we found several holes that were left used. We can't remember why we didn't close them up during the body work. We have two that are temporarily plugged until we install the Harrison heater in the fall. We still have tailgate and windshield painting but the weather has not been warm enough to tackle those just yet.

My dad has a 1945 SN 10605. All his tags are attached with panhead screws. |

Were the early 2A data plates riveted to the dash? Those on my mid-year 1947 2A have panhead machine screws as stock.

Thanks for the comments, I love the air filter setup... As it stands it sits 1/2 inch too tall and will have to be cut down. Rivited the data plates to help keep them in place. Working each gauge one by one.....

I love your air filter mod, using the stock metal air horn and the K&N. Nice work all around and thanks for sharing.
