Went smooth enough...two stuck jets...two screw heads snap on the throttle plate...and a stuck plug...
But it's a start. First attempt at rebuilding a carb. 🎉 |

I think the original tool for removing that plug had a v shape to pry it out just like the backside of a hammer for prying nails

It's just a plug shoved in? No threads?

Yep. I saw that. Still need help with a few things.
So...I guess I should have left the choke plate in. Didn't know the screws were smashed in on the back until they broke. The rebuild kit comes with a bunch of those press in plugs. Do I need to remove them all or can I leave them in with no worries. |

I have pulled the small plugs and I have left them in on prior rebuilds. Removing them gives you better access for cleaning.
I didn't have any of the 'official' tools to do this, so I made/modified a couple things for this task. Picked up a small pry bar at Home Depot and sharpened the edge a bit. Works well to pull the old plugs. To reset the plugs I used a small hammer and a piece of scrap 1/4" rod to make a punch. I used a 3/16" drill bit to shape the end as seen in the photo. Works great. I would add...
There is one plug that you should not pull. It is the slightly over-sized plug. You don't want to pull it because a replacement is NOT included in any of the current rebuild kits.

Can someone show me what the filler plate between the two gaskets above the throttle body look like? if you could take a photo it and tell me the material and thickness of it I could maybe make one. It seem my carb was missing that piece and I'm trying to rebuild my carb. Thanks Rich

Rich,
Here is a link to a nice instructional on how to rebuild the Carter WO. Good verbiage and photos. Go to the "Throttle Body to Main Body" section and you will see this piece. Click on the photos to enlarge them. Hawk

An approximate guess is 1/8". If you need this piece, or an accurate measurement, you might get in contact with Scoutpilot. I have purchased a number of parts from him for these Carters. He is very fair with pricing...and a joy to do business with. |

This guy here?? "insulator" and it would be difficult to accurately reproduce. 2x what Tim said-no more knowledgeable or easier guy to deal with than Scout.

So I completely screwed this. Broke off the easy out tip in the stuck jet.
What now?! Tried to drill it out to get the easy out in further, but I can't drill into the easy out. Metal is too hard. Do I just buy a new carb? Or are there pieces available? I'm so PO'ed. |
