Colorado Fall Color Tours 2017!! - Event Date: 17 Sep. 2017 - 23 Sep. 2017

Joe Friday, your Jeep arrived about 4 yesterday, complete with plow.  I guess we're gonna tackle some road clearing operations with that beast!! 

The sun is lighting up the sky but hasn't hit earth around here yet.  We've got some clouds above and there's a chance of rain today, but spirits are high and we're anticipating a gaggle of new faces to join us and a great ride out through Brown's Creek and up the Grandfather Tree. 

Two cups of coffee down, its time to go commit surgery on the Blue Mule.  We're removing a sqauking alternator and putting a new one in. 

Frankie and I will head up on Thursday.   If you guys need any parts, let me know.  If I have it I will bring it!

Well, Sunday was a wet day with showers coming and going all afternoon.  We had two runs go out, one to Grizzly Lake and one to Brown's Creek area.  Both got rained on, but that did little to dampen the spirits.  However the rides did bring out some mechanical problems in a few Jeeps.  Rick felt like his clutch was slipping so we put his Jeep up on the hoist and pulled the tranny and transfer case out to inspect the clutch.  After some cleaning he decided to reinstall everything.  We used the engine hoist to help us lower the tranny, transfer, and support beam out of the Jeep, and then to lift those parts back into place.  In this photo Rick is bolting the bell housing back onto the block. 



While some folks were out on rides, others were here at Thirsty Dirt Ranch riding around in Fred LaPerrier's GPA amphibious Jeep from WW2.  I'll have to see if I can steal someones photo of that happening to add to the thread. 

Today we're going to take groups up to 13,000 feet on Mt. Antero, and to 12,000 feet up South Cottonwood drainage.  Mt. Antero will be a scary ride as we zigzag up the side of the mountain above treeline.  South Cottonwood should present some grand vistas with plenty of fall colors to enjoy.  The weatherman says the next several days should be all sunshine and no rain.  That will give us beautiful blue skies above the mountain scenery for us to enjoy.

Fred has to be one of the nicest guys in the world.  He let me drive that into a lake and motor around.  $150,000.00 and he let me try to sink it!
