For sale: one 1947 Highway Equipment Co. ½-ton enclosed lineman’s trailer, model 30-S. This is the postwar civilian big brother to the WW II Signal Corps 1/4-ton military model K-38 enclosed linesman trailer.

These sturdy trailers were towed behind utility company pickup trucks and enabled linemen to repair and connect electrical and telephone lines in the field. They typically contained a bowl in which to melt lead as well as all the equipment, fittings and tools necessary to perform the job. The fully enclosed trailer body by itself is 4 feet 3 inches long, 4 feet wide and 3-1/2 feet tall.  Overall trailer length is 7 feet. It has a 2” ball coupler for towing and a hand-operated parking brake and tubular jack leg for parking. A lantern stand on the front can be locked to keep the oil or white gas lantern present and burning when unattended roadside.

A locking T handle on the side of the roof opens and shuts the hinged two-thirds roof section that raises for access to the interior. The roof interior contains storage compartments. A large locking rear door also provides access to the enclosed body. Brackets on the rear end can hold large road signs. A separate front belly compartment has its own lock handle inside the trailer, accessible when the roof is raised. The single rear tail/brake light needs a bulb, lens (I have) and some attention. Trailer wiring is present and has a 4 hole small round female electrical plug on the tow vehicle end.

The trailer rides on two 4.00” x 18” 4 ply rating tube type motorcycle tires. One tire is cracked yet holds air, so the trailer can roll around the yard but cannot be towed at speed unless this tire is replaced at buyer’s cost. Due to its local service area, the trailer did not have a spare tire. If you purchase this trailer, I highly recommend you bring a flatbed trailer on which to haul it home.

Paint is weathered olive drab, trailer could use a repaint by buyer. Would look great behind a jeep or a Bell Telephone Co. pickup or line truck. Or use as a secure equipment or cook trailer for overnight jeep trips, or as a pool side cooking or storage center for those who like unusual yard art. No title, sold with bill of sale only.  But all data is clearly visible on the data plate for registration and titling in your home state.

Price reduced to $895.00 FOB Denver [from $995.00 FOB Denver] to sell quickly. No title, bill of sale only. Call me at 303-399-8104 or email me at agrijeep@centurylink.net with questions or for more information or additional photos. Thank you for looking.
Happy Jeep Trails,
