Found this beauty within 2 hours of me by accident when I was looking in an antique store for military memorabilia. The owner said he had a military trailer on his farm he just got from an estate sale. I quickly recognized it as a Bantam civilian model and for $400 I brought it home. Besides paint and body, it needs one hinge repaired, tailgate chains installed and I now realize the tonque frame has been extended but thankfully they kept the landing leg and chains. There's also a couple of soft spots in the front on the floor but overall still OK. Notice they used axle spring plates with shock mounts on them? There are no shock holes in the frame though?

Cool beans!!!! and Nice find...CONGRATULATIONS MAN!!!!
What are your plans for her now? You going to restore her? I know it has that long a-frame on her but besides that she is what she is. Again, Congrats on your purchase. b/w, Jr

Beautiful trailer canorisa! I'm thinking of going back to green on mine which is what mine seems to have on it. Were the frames and suspension painted black when built back in the day? Wonder what the chances are that I could find/build original tonque pieces?
I see that you served in the Marines, thanks for your service! I also served for 20 years in the Canadian Forces; as they say the toughest job you'll ever love!

CoolPool: Thanks on the complement and I apologize for not getting back to you sooner. I have been down at the DMV. Enough said on that front, lol. The undercarriage and the A-frame was originally painted black on this one trailer so I went ahead and powder coat them in black...all of it...all the parts. I just wanted to stay as close to original as possible. The chances of you finding an original Tonge piece are very dim but they are out there and there are folks out there who are selling them to upgrade to the 2" set up. I was forced to because I didn't have a 1 7/8" setup on my Jeep. Come to think of it, I wish I hadn't sold mine to begin with but I did and well, the rest is history. Oh well, my loss! Before I forget, THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE Mate. You did your part and I did mine. We both wore and served in those boots, you know. So thank you! Jr

Does anyone have the dimensions for an original a-frame available? As it appears to be simple C-channel with a stiffener plate on the open sides I think I can reproduce it fairly easy back to original specs or very close.

Some updates: I had the trailer sand blasted completely which revealed some thin spots.

I had to purchase all new shackles and pivot pins. Both main leafs were broken so I picked up two used ones from a 1947 CJ 2A. I hope they aren't too stiff? I'll have to fabricate all new spring clamps too.

The bearings were fine so I just cleaned them up, repacked them and installed new seals. I also added gaskets to the outer plates which were never there.

I'm going to stick with the original tires for now unless I can find some cheap, used NDT's. I'm pretty limited up here for finding stuff like that. These ones are still safe to run for now.

Well she's finally done except for the addition of a licence plate bracket which I'll make.
