snow all melted so I drug this 3b chassis out and rigged up some pallet racking for a jeep picker uper thing. I'm using the axles for my 48. Made it nice for removing them.

Is the crack in the same cylinder as the one with the burned valve? How you like the 49 degrees moisture so thick it looked like it rained in my barn. Joe W

Joe, surprisingly no, that crack was on a different cylinder, same head though. This weather is awful...even my shop jacket and pants that I leave out there were wet. Everything metal is drenched too...Ive been leaving a fan running out there to keep some air moving to help. Lucky for us its 25 or so degrees colder now!

So, the 3b chassis I pillaged axles from was one i picked up from a pal from work. I literally rolled it off his trailer and on to mine then into the weeds at my folks place. It sat there for 8 or 9 years then I drug it to my house and rolled it off the trailer and tore it apart. Tonight I drained the diffs for a quick looky see....im not particularly thrilled about what I found.

I wish I had noticed it when moving it around, but I literally never turned the darn thing.

A Lincoln locker.  Not sure I'd want one.  No, I'm sure I wouldn't want one.  But that's just me.

got my front axle more or less spruced up. Except for the hubs ...i ordered a front wheel bearing kit from herm, and what a bunch of Chinese junk it is..the races are 1/16" shorter than timkens, and .02 smaller in diameter..the literally fall into their respective bores in the hub...he is getting this crap back..very dissappointed, after all the hassle to pay him especially. just FYI TO ALL.

I once bought a set of bearings that I thought were for a '48 CJ, but they wouldn't quite fit into the hubs, being just slightly too large in diameter.  Turned out they were for a newer hub.

However, the correct bearings fit properly in diameter but the races are shorter by 1/16" or so.  If Herm's are Chinese, I am not surprised by the differences...
