    Posted: 19 Oct. 2017 at 5:11pm
I know that we had 6.00 x 16 tires as OEM equipment.
I found 6.00 and 7.00 tires for sale yesterday.  They claim shipping is free but of course that means no additional cost above the tire itself.
The 50, 51, and 51 M38 Jeep which has the same gearing and is basically a CJ3A and it
had 7.00 x 16 tires and since I have the slightly wider wheels from an M38 that is what I am going with since my "ride" will be on the road in about 6 weeks from now after 25 years of sitting in the work shop.

These are smooth tread tires so they would be much quieter and they will never wear out being a load range F.  They do not offer a lighter load range in a 7.00 as I already inquired.

Hope all is well in the 2A world.
Regards,

Do you really want tires made by HWA FONG in Indonesia on your Jeep?

Not really but where else am I going to find a tire like this?

I really do not want a military tread tire and I do not want a
6.00 or a 6.50x16.  This size is hard to find and almost
impossible in a smooth tread.
I am asking for and taking suggestions so please forward them if you can.

Don't know if you have to have NDT's or not but I have Firestone Destination 215X85x16's on my 3A. These are great. 31" great grip. Love them. Don't have any "willys wobble" or bog down my power. There are newer ones out now, maybe even better... don't know.

Did you have any issues installing a tubeless tire with a tube?
I assume that you have radial tubes?

I need to compare the sizes I guess.
Been looking for tires for hours and waiting on answers from various
vendors.

Did them tubeless. Same 4.5" wheels. No problem on any terrain. Aired down for Moab. No problem.

Shy away from those Chinese tires.
A buddy tells me they wear very quickly.
If you want bias ply hiway rib tread then check out the STA Suoer Transport...

For Kelsey Hayes  5 x 16" wheels you can go as large as 235/ 85R/ 16 in a modern radial.

The super transport tires are likely made in Pennsylvania or Tennessee.

No super transport in a 7.00 x 16 are listed.
There is a tire for $189 listed but it is a show tire
for older cars.  $189 x 4 is a lot of money for a tire
that is good for 25,000 miles.

Jim,

Specialty Tire of America make as Super Traction tire that is a 16 x 6.50 - the tire is as tall a the 7.00 and is really great on and off road.

Another vote for the Super Traxion.

Side by side, the 16x6.50 Super Traxion mounted on an M38A1 rim stands taller than a 15x7.00 NDCC on a civilian rim.  When sitting next to my Wife’s 3A, it’s a bit emasculating for my little green Jeep.Ermm

The Traxion is surprisingly smooth on pavement…when compared to the NDCC.

For very good reasons most Civilian Willys will opt for the 6.50 x 16" Super Traxion. (30.2" tall X 6.2" wide tread)
It's the very largest tire one can run at 29* (rezeppa shaft) steer angle on the  3/4" (standard ) inset wheels.

But since you have the Heavy Duty  5" rims you might consider a tad larger/wider tire.
Effectively going beyond the tire fit limits for a standard suspended Willys.

In fact all of the STA tires tend to run taller than most other brands.
You could feasably mount up to 7.50 x 16 STA's (32.2" x 7.2" wide tread) or the modern 235 85R 16 (31.7" X approx 7" wide tread ) with some tire contact unless modified.
Biggest rubbing concern is at full  turn.

Here is a couple of pics of the new tires on the freshly painted wheels.
The 2nd one is the original, 1946 tire next to the new one.
