LR ..they are set up to fire a propane and oxygen mixture ..lines and wires not currently attached .. tanks and regulators sit inside the ammo cans ..

it has been 10 months since I've posted anything and thats far to long.
I've spent these past months completing my preservation work on the Queen, new track, brake and wiring systems, new clutch, valve job etc. etc. etc..

In addition I stood up an educational nonprofit " The African Queen Project"
and of course all the ass-pain that entails,  LLC, A Board, Bi-Laws, State and Federal Registration, Tax Exempt etc.. 

In addition we were invited to display the Queen at the The National Museum of the US Air Force, Dayton OH for 6 months +.  Air Force picked up last Tuesday and I drove to Dayton to unload her and drive into her place.  We are thrilled to have this affiliation with such a prestigious museum, and our visibility multiplication speaks for itself.  They are producing a short video on the unload and setup to include an impromptu interview with yours truly.

I will now finally have the opportunity to finish my 2A project!!  1st order of business is to pull my new engine and go thru the block like Joe did.  Just don't trust it, and with all the new goodies I'll feel better about the Power Plant.

I'll of course post pics and commentary!

That is such a great pic of your dad and the Quad ...in the background I can see a towed AAA gun, that was a configuration for many of the M16 units  in Korea, one would pull the AAA gun and another would pull a couple of M10 Ammo trailers for gun and the Quad.  AAA gun to use against aircraft and the Quad to be used against ground targets.  Wondering if your dad trained at Camp Stewart and Fort Rucker before deploying to Korea?  I envy you in happy way, I lost my dad in 2003 while I was down range in Afghanistan.  He loved this kind of stuff.  

Please pm me his number, I would love an opportunity to talk to him.

Mark, I saw my 1st Halftrack in Kansas while driving from New Mexico to Iowa to see my grandparents (dads). We were on the turnpike and It seemed that every grain terminal we passed had a halftrack to push the rail cars around on the sidings to be filled with wheat.  They were all stripped of their armor and had couplers welded on the front and rear frames.  I was probably 6 at the time and thought they were the coolest things I'd ever seen. My dad said he'd love to have one, my mom said he already had to many irons in the fire with his other projects (Model A's).  I always wondered, what happened to all those tracks?

Totally blessed and honored to be a temporary custodian of history for a short time.

OH well it was the second vehicle I wanted dad wouldn't let me buy the first was a beautiful 48 2wd Willys Wagon with the BW over drive the Blacksmith shop across the street from my grade school had for sale for $300 in the spring of 1972 Dads argument was it would cost to much to convert it to 4wd! Dad was a jeep guy he drove CHUG to work every day from 1963 to 1970 when he went to a J3000 Gladiator. He couldn't see a jeep not 4x4. And then the third Grandpas 1956 Chevy 210 Wagon that the dealer grandpa traded it on a used 65 Malibu wagon said he would sell me for $50 cash so he didn't have to put it on his lot. The money was not 4 blocks away in my savings account and dad said NO I was 17 at the time. I had taken my drivers test in that wagon.

Great pic! In the Korean War those AA 'tracks were used against swarms of Chinese infantry. They couldn't fire fast enough.

I sent my Dad (91) your article from Hagerty.  He commanded a Mobile AA outfit with M16 half tracks with quad 50s, tanks and 120MM AA Guns.  There are pictures of his M16a2 half tracks somewhere around here.

Here is a picture him with a quad 50.  

He has a sharp mind if you ever want to talk to someone who used them in the field.

He also had a brand new 1946 CJ2A - again a picture I need to fine.

Thanks for preserving the M16 Half Track he really enjoyed the read.

Giles I've become a fat pill since I retired...gym would help and I've started fasting to lose that weight .. hate being out of shape, but some medical issues have caught up to me...  appreciate your comments and will try to keep my videos relevant to the task at hand!!

I seen your videos on  YouTube African Queen Halftrack . What I seen is you’re doing amazing work to bring history back. I don’t think you have  to go to the gym for a workout after I seen you work on the Halftrack.Keep those videos coming.Thumbs Up

Been awhile as the Queen has taken precedent for numerous reasons.  Here is one of those reasons.  I have my GPW on display at the Tristate Warbird Museum along with some incredible aircraft and my CJ2A is patiently awaiting my return to wrenching on her. Just wanted to share these pics of an article that Haggerty did on my track.  It was published this month and it's a tribute to all who rescue, preserve and restore all historic pieces of iconic American history.  Hopefully you can read the article if you expand the pics a bit.

Bought a 40 foot shipping container/space from Marask shipping from Djibouti to Norfolk for $6300 US.  The track cost me nothing but 2 bottles of Scotch, but on my paperwork it states $20,000 Dijboution Frank's or the equivalent of $100 US.  COL Prevost, the French commander was a great gent and very helpful with my recovery of the Queen. (Pic of her nose art and her French Foreign Legion "Scarab" and my Dad a Combat Engineer during the Korean War)

Red that's funny .. Road rage abatement would be the perfect mission set, especially after driving thru Columbus OH this weekend. She has a low speed run of 45MPH at max, but those 50's have the 1200m+ range and speed to make up for that. Actually as I used to tell my troops, max effective range on the Ma Deuce is burnout of the tracer or in the perfect world the point where you can no longer observe the strike of the rounds!   

Maybe I should visit the nearest Richie Brothers with the Queen and convince them to refund my money back on that FORD POS!!!

PS: When I pulled in to set-up it was still dark and unbeknown to me the show was broken down by vehicle type (nothing in the show instruction regards that). The spot I chose had a nice grassy strip and was wide enough for the track and trailer so I parked there. Later on that morning an official came by and told me I was parked in "FORD" country and asked me why I was there. I promptly replied that my Jeep was a Ford and we were exactly where we belonged ..He was surprised as he did not know that Ford manufactured WWII Jeeps. I made sure he left there with a quick but complete history of the WWII jeep to include Bantam, Willys and Ford.
