Colonel: The red 2A looks great and it's exciting to see the fan blades on your 'track's mighty White Mustang flathead six spinning! Please share pics of the 'track when it's outside the hangar, and of the 2A when it's done.

Red its the "Hercules" engine in the house that White built ...
Per your request couple of pics today... took baby out to show off her new shoes ... The Queen ran like a champ as I drove her around the airport hanger and service roads. |

BTW: My dad worked on the M3 assembly line at Autocar Trucks in Ardmore, PA, welding bogie brackets, before joining the Navy. Autocar was just then finishing production of the White Scout Car while building halftracks, too.
So, halftracks have always been a fascination for me, along with Willys jeeps. |

That is beyond awsome!! Is your dad still with you? I lost my dad in 2003 while on a combat tour in Afghanistan .. I feel like he's looking over my shoulder every day with a grin on his face when I'm in my shop. He truly gave me my appreciation for vehicles!

Col. K, sorry to hear you lost your dad while you were overseas on combat tour. Mine passed five years ago. He's shown standing next to his (now mine) 2A with the striped snowplow in the thumbnail pic, which was taken in about 1950.
Autocar regularly tested new M3s on the local roads in Ardmore, PA, straight off the assembly line. Willys-Overland did the same with new MBs in Toledo. |

Crazy month, with travel and family issues back in MN. We are now listing our home in NOV which opens another can of worms regards check list of items to be completed by the listing date.
That being said, finding a little slice of time to get vehicles ready for an airshow Saturday and then follow on commitments for veterans parades in November. Have not had my track in anything since 2008, when some buds took her to a Touch A Truck event in WI, I was deployed at the time on a peace keeping operation. Will also be showing my 42 and a 44 GPW and my Maxson Quadmount which is almost finished and will go back into my track. Showing my crew weapons on the "Queen" 2 Garands, 2 Carbines and a Thompson. All weapons are original and in working condition. These are the original weapons the crew would have carried. Also throwing on some packs and a WWII stretcher. Lots of other little goddies .. Believe she will be a hit Edited by mkoloc - 11 Oct. 2018 at 3:48am |

The M16 Halftrack might have a different kind of "grease gun" - the .45-caliber variety - under its hood...

LR, thats good ..actually all M16s have a Thompson Box. In my pic my Thompson is sitting in the box mounts .. The box top flips up and the box holds 20, 20 round clips for the Thompson. The box above the Thompson box is one of two grenade boxes, one on each side. They each hold 10 grenades. Along with the quad mount and crew weapons it made the track a very formidable weapons system back in the day.

Very impressive pics! Going from working on the 1/2 track to the jeeps, is it similar only miniature? Could probably sell tickets to the test firing of the quad 50. My father used to talk about firing them in WW-2, for Anti-Aircraft drills, Ground mounted. I imagine the sound would be the same though. Joe W

In the Korean War, when the Chinese entered the conflict and attempted mass charges with thousands of troops, the US Army employed the AA halftracks (with their quad-50s) as anti-personnel gun platforms.

Joe, I also own a watch and clock shop. I am a trained and certified Horologist, graduated from the York Time Institute in 2015. 30 month school that teaches you to make your own clock and watch parts … Talk about going from big to small!! Taught me all about patience! Actually have to admit that working on Jeeps is easier. everything on the "Queen" is heavy and robust.
Red, my track was number 315 of 413 M16A2's converted/rebuilt and sent to Korea in 1952. The conversion included an additional 10" ring under the turret to elevate the gun platform to shoot ground targets (Human Wave Attacks) in support of the U.S. Army and UN Forces who were seriously outnumbered by Chinese and North Korean forces. The Quad mount system was outmoded regards Jet aircraft, but many M16A2's pulled 90mm Antiaircraft Cannons behind them for AAA defense. Soldiers crewing these tracks were trained at Camp Stewart GA on the 90 mm Artillery and then trained at Ft. Rucker AL on the halftracks before shipping to Korea. Training included the 1st use of the RCAS (Radio Controlled Aircraft System) system in the Army. RCAS used a JATO (Jet Assisted Take Off) powered launch system to get airborne. I have been readying my home for sale as we are relocating to Cincinnati OH by Jan 19. So I have spent zero time on any of ,y projects a the shop. House went on the market Thursday 8 Nov and we have had 7 showings last two days. Hoping it will sell quickly. If your interested in looking at it, it's 1050 Longview Dr, Prescott AZ on Realtor.com. In addition to all of this, the city POS decided to throw me out of my hangar in October. After lots of threats from them and some legal language from me I'm not going anywhere until I move in January. Everything we are looking at in Ohio has a shop building or plenty of room, for me to put one up. I do have some place to stash all of my goodies in January in Ohio. The one thing I have been able to do is support the local Veterans parades. Pics from the one today in Prescott. Brought both Jeeps and the Queen. Had a great time as this was the Queens 1st parade. All of my vehicles ran like champs. Loved talking to all the Vets there, including a couple of WWII vets who rode in half tracks during the war. |
