Mark,  have you run that new Allied block yet?  If so, what is the word?  Any issues?
Thank you.

ABAHD, have not had the opportunity yet. Sold my house in Nov and moving to Cincinnati, OH. Actually loaded out our home in Prescott today and am heading east on Monday. Will be moving my shop and vehicles in January so I wont have an opportunity until February. Engine is all finished, just need to tweak my distributor. Been the proverbial one legged man with prepping the house for sale and finishing my clients clock and watch projects be fore moving. Will provide an update on the new block as soon as I twist her tail. The great news is we sold our home in 4 days and got our asking price and found a beautiful place in Batavia OH. We close on that home as soon as we arrive there and yes it has a shop building!!!

Good score on the new property!  But ya don't run into too many people moving from Arizona to Ohio.  I think most folks prefer more warmth as they get older.  Anyway, please do keep us updated on the new engine - I'm having one built right now and I fear it is not going well.  Take it easy, good luck on the move.

BTW, there is a thread on the Allied block here:

If you could weigh in on your build, that would be very informative to all I'm sure.

ABAHD, moved to AZ from River Falls WI, so the winter thing is no big deal. Cincinnati winters are pretty mild, and the move is in support of he wife's career path. You get a lot of home for the buck compared to Prescott. New place includes 8 acres of woods, a brook and lots of privacy. My wife lived in Ft Collins for several years and I love it there … we considered a move there but everything we like and wanted in a new property had us living in the mountain's or to far from town. Prescott's downtown reminded us a lot of old Ft. Collins.

What issues are you having with the new block? Understand the early blocks had an issue with the rear crank seal due to tolerance issues of the main bearing cap and there were a lot of leaks. Some of the machined holes for bolt on item's have been an issue. I could not use my original oil pump bolts as they were to long and bottomed out before tightening up. Lots of little stuff like that.

I followed the instructions regards cleaning, oil journals etc. ..and yes there was manufacturing debris, but I had no issues with valve fit etc. ..and I used a rope seal (Personal Choice) on the rear bearing as I have had better luck with them on other engine rebuilds. Lots of STP mixed with my assembly oil and I injected oil into the journals during assembly. Motor turned freely during assembly. Most anxious to see how it runs.

Thanks for the input, Mark.  I know what you mean about getting more for your $ in the midwest.  The prices here have become ridiculous.  It's getting harder and harder to protest my valuations every other year, as I'm afraid now my place might actually be worth what the county thinks it is!

When do you think you'll get to start and run your new engine?  It would be awesome if you shot a video of that!  Even if you don't, let us know how it goes.  Bob W. says he saw an Allied block running well.  I think maybe I got a lemon!  Fingers crossed...

Lt.Col: I'm interested in how you plan to ship your Arizona Armored Division from AZ to Cinci--flatbed railcars as was done in 1944? Send pics when you've got 'em...

LOL Red you crack me up!! Bought a used F550 flatbed with the thought of making a couple+ trips out and back with a 25/5 foot 5th wheel gooseneck trailer (High Desert Model out of Phoenix) Queen and ammo trailer on one load and jeeps and SPEN trailer on another.  Heading out next week to move everything else in a 26 foot enclosed truck pulling my utility trailer behind back to OH.

Moved my household goods out right before XMAS, but am waiting for new carpet install on the 7-8 of Jan to move everything into the rest of the house.  Painters finished up last Friday.  Crazy couple of months!!!!

Shoot a few pics of the F550 pulling the 'track on the gooseneck trailer, if you get a chance. I assume the F550 has the Navistar V8 diesel for power?

Mark, any movement on your Allied?  Did you get it going?  Any issues?  I finally got mine up and running in June and so far so good.  Joe DeYoung built it and did a terrific job on it.  Though I know it was very frustrating for him.  I have about 3,000 miles on it now.  I hope you are having a good experience with it!

Ouch .. sorry for the delay in getting back to you my friend's.  Ford truck:  What a bust that was!!!  Bought the POS at a Ritchie Brothers Online auction in Maryland for $6K. Truck supposedly had 120k miles on it.  Flew to Baltimore to pick it up.  After checking all the fluids (low oil should have been my clue) I stopped at an auto store to replace the missing radiator overflow tank cap and pick up some extra oil and antifreeze.  Started on my 11 hour drive back to Cincinnati.  The truck was running good according to the gauges as they were all reading good and the POS sounded strong and normal.  Got to the PA Turnpike and pulled over to check my fluids before moving on.  Shut it off, pulled the dipstick not one drop of oil! Guage was reading fine as was temp guage when I shut it off.  Added oil but it would not start (low oil overide)!!  Called a tow truck which just happened to coming from my scheduled overnight stop and after a couple of hundred bucks dropped it off at the Ford dealership.  Called the next morning told them what had happened and was told it would be 2 weeks before they could even get at it.  Rented a car one way and headed back to Cincinnati.

Fast forward three weeks and dealer states that it looks like a cam has shelled with a piece of metal in the oil pump intake (low oil pressure cut out) but they need to pull the cab to do a real diagnostic.  Another week, call back from the dealer....engine is toast and cost to replace is $10k plus labor.  At this point I'm already $3k into the diagnostic.  Told them to junk the truck.  They did state that in their opinion there was way more than 200k miles on that engine.  I would have been better off just burning $10k in my Weber.  No recourse with RB as its all on the buyer.  NEVER AGAIN!!!

Regards my CJ2A, I have not started the engine as that Allied block has me a bit warry especially after reading all the work that Joe DY did to get it up to snuff. I plan to tear it down again and make sure that I did not miss anything crucial. A bit of work, but much better than damaging the internal goodies and my $ investment.

Since arriving here in Cincinnati, I of course had to address the house, paint, carpet, furnace and air-conditioners replacement, both units as we have duel zone heat and cooling, new water heater and repairs to my septic system as the previous owner did not make the required repairs but failed to disclose it when we purchased. Found out about that situation when we failed the county inspection in Feb. All fixed but time consuming as I'm no expert but was able to do the improvements myself needed to pass.

My primary focus on vehicles has been my Halftrack. I needed to get my repairs and the turret put back together for a photo shoot scheduled with Hagerty Magazine by September. In addition I had already promised Julie we would take a 3 week trip to the UK and France, July into August.

The Queen came together nicely by the end of August just in time for the photo shoot. I also found out via a new friend here that a National Car Show is held in October less than 3 miles from my place. So I was able to attend my 1st National Show with the Halftrack and my 1942 Ford GPW 1/4 Ton Jeep. Ha to convince the club hosting the show that the HT would be a great draw regards crowds as they called me after getting my applications for both vehicles. They were somewhat reluctant to have a "Tank" show up at the show, but after stating that their requirements only mentioned the age requirements of vehicle and not the type, they agreed to let me show her.

Three day show, 4-6 October and from the moment we arrived at 6:30 AM on a rollback on Friday until the time we pulled out Sunday afternoon we were the hit of the show. We took 1st place in the top 50, out of 2700+ vehicles and many other owners stated that they had never seen such a response from the crowd at past shows. I never got a break as I was the proverbial one man team, but the interest and compliments more than made up the long hours. They not only gave me a very nice plaque but slipped me some cash to offset my transpiration costs to the show. Needless to say, I'm already invited back for next years show.

Some pics to include a couple before pics of what she looked like when I found her in Africa:

Your Half Track is awesome.  Does it chew up the roads?  It doesn't look like it tore up the sod.

Texas 1st Armored is now the Ohio 1st. Its mission in the Cinci region: Road Rage Abatement, via quad .50s, a Thompson, and assorted carbines.

The 'track looks great, as does your GPW. Certainly not just another '55 Chevy for the car show...
