Rather than the Arizona Panthers, this would be the Arizona Panzers....

LOL  LOL ...Have to be careful, dont want to get the local POPO all bent out of shape!!  Actually the Sheriff has a spot in the hanger around the corner and he was all over it regards going for a spin in the Queen when he drove by and stopped to see my goodies... had quite the chat about cops with armored vehicles and perceptions with the citizens (Department has a Husky) although I  have to admit when he mentioned an issue between the department and a citizen armed with a 50 Cal Barret and that the LEO's are a bit outgunned I could see his point a bit.  2 sherrif cars shot to sh!t and changes of underwear all around but individual did surrender and no one hurt.   Its probably a good thing he didn't see my very operational mortar sitting in the corner!

Doing body work on the tub today and still need to weld on a couple more items.  Emergency brake return spring bracket, kinda forgot about that!  Ordered on the way as there was not one on the old tub that I could salvage.  Couple of caged nuts with reinforcements for driver seat and I want to weld caged nuts in the back for the rear seat "roller bracket" that can be ordered, keeps the rear legs locked down in place on back seat

Will post pics of progress as always.  Have also been working on my 42 GPW.  The more I tear into it the more buba stuff I find done to it!!!! The past owner was crazy with his cuttin torch.  Will post some pics of that too.

Body work:  As usual MDW not all it can be; Fuel tank cut outs will need modifications. Ground down and filled all of the high and low points on sides of the body and some tooling marks on the floor that were really bad.

GPW is a can of worms right now,  many things missing or buba-upped but do-able.  Started with the back, restored the missing bumpers, spare tire carrier and added a fuel can carrier that had been mounted there before, holes drilled out but was not original on the 42.  The Ross box completely cut out along with the floorboard so a chevy box could be installed along with a under the dash emegency brake.  That is in the process of being removed and replaced with a Ford script box.  Dash is all fffd up with wrong controls, cables etc.  Even the data plates are wrong as they are for a Willys Jeep.  I was able to purchase a complete GPW Engine today and will pick it up next week.

Original voltage regulator swapped out ... note the size differences between civilian and military regulators.

just be happy you spot problems BEFORE paint.

Make sure, when fitting your tank, that both RH and LH straps are in place and maybe even welting underneath.  looks like tank lines up nicely on the filler neck.  Never understood how they can screw up the 2 holes on the bottom of the tank.

Mike, discovered these items by reading other's posts like your excellent restoration post... the neck lines up very nicely, using rubber as a insulator instead of felt..... of course there is only the one strap with the CJ.   Appreciate the help regards the fuel line strap and will fab one up and weld it in place. May make it a double.

GPW needs a second fuel tank strap and I have a F script one on tap. Ross box and parts arrived today but tube and worm shaft still in transit.

McG, thanks for the info,  welded one additional fuel line tab to the body in addition to welding the emegency brake spring bracket into place and tapped holes etc for tailight, trailer plug connector and reflector.  Still need to do caged nuts for seats along with metal reinforcements for same on underside of the floor and finish drilling out holes for steering column trim rings, cover plate for floor by fuel tank mount (after I fab up a cover) and holes for transfer case trim ring,  which I  am still missing. I need to fix the fuel tank cutouts as they are a mess and continue doing bodywork on the worst of the tooling marks and grinding insanity.   I am going to dry fit the body to the chassis to see how it all lines up before doing any paint.  Am particularly concerned about brake and clutch cutouts.
F-MDJ 😉 ....

Picked up my Ford GPW Engine today.  Very complete, pistons are marked 0.20 oversize so it was worked on in the past.  Block # 6015, Head # 6050.  Also picked up a skidplate for the Ford and a couple of other goodies for the CJ.  $400 for everything.

Feeling a bit sheepish on the GPS block #...those are casting numbers ..l will get pics of the block number tomorrow.

Welding is done on the tub.  Reinforced my seat mounting points and welded in caged nuts.  Also used caged nuts for the spare tire mount bolts, and the shift cover plates.  Prefer bolts to screws on the cover plates.  Rounded out the screwed up openings for the fuel tank line and drain and opened up the floor for the rear seat legs.  MDJ stamps the imprint, but the metal is not cut in any way an was a PIA to cut out and shape with files. Still need to drill out the roller bracket mounting holes.  My welding is improving Confused .

Is the caged nut welded on drivers side wheel well correct?  On 2A's the driver seat should have nut inside the seat frame.  Not sure on miltary ones.  They have so many different things. Everything is looking good!

Mike, neither of the seats that came with my Jeep were the original 2A seat (see pic)...that being said they are both solid and in good shape and I'm going to use them.  besides that the passenger seat back is split and folds forward which makes for a nice touch.  The driver seat has a mounting tab that fits up against the fender well, thus the 3rd mounting location with the caged nut.
