I walked by the jeep while I was out in the garage getting tools to thaw out some more frozen pipes. Haven't touched it in 2 weeks because of the cold. The heat works fine but with the cold and wind I'd end up blowing through a tank of gas in no time, not worth it.

Put on the new copper core plug wires from Walck's. Also noticed the hood hinge on the cowl is cracked around the boltholes on each end.

Ready for new bolt and straps:

These had some pitting and various signs of wear, but the arch of the leaves are still pretty good and I can live with that.

1/12/2018 -- Time moves froward on this post.

We are expecting snow and ice today, so last night I prepped the 1946.  It has a 1950 Meyers plow (the tall one like gas stations had in the old days when they pushed their own snow) installed with an T5 lift pump.  It has been two months since the 1946 was started and it fired right up.  I ran it until the thermostat opened.   The garage gremlin has been working against me from the looks of things.  The rear exhaust manifold stud is leaking so it burned off some coolant out of the exhaust casting and then stopped smoking.   The water pump or alternator (something in the front) is making a noise.  The noise did quiet down once up to temp.

Because of our proximity the Ohio River we rarely get more than 5 inches of snow in a big snow.  Once in a great while many be 8 inches - so the plow usually is not necessary.

If we do get some nice snow I will try out the Powerloks - since reading that in Oregon people don't like to drive in bad weather with Powerloks, I have been wanting  to try them out.   The trick is to do it before the salt trucks show up.  I don't want the CJ2A out in the salt.

Last week, I took the Jeep down to the paint store and had them scan the underside. I got a good match for Luzon Red and had them make up a spray can.

My tailgate had no paint. I sanded and primed it.

Today, I gave it a coat of paint.

Upside down picture again.

that looks great!!

I removed a broken stud from my windshield pivot. Both are all cleaned up and ready for paint.

Loaded up the boy's V8 YJ to bring out to my warehouse to store, along with the truck and trailer. Boy that motor sounds nice! I'd forgotten what a nice combo we put together.

A nicely warmed up AMC 360. Hooked it to a 999 and built up 231. It goes like stink.

Too bad the rest of the YJ is started to fade away around it. We're going to have to decide soon on what to do - frame off - or find a clean YJ and do some swapping. He's had it since high school. So he is pretty attached to it.

Cut the rear half of the floor pan out and ground most of the rust blobs from the sheet metal left by a PO. I have 4 heavy metal shelves I'll be converting to interior panels and flooring. Lots of drilling and riveting in my future, wish I wasn't such a crappy welder. Also charged the battery, warmed up the engine, started her up and let her run a while, just to get the oil circulating again.
Here's a piece of information: a battery charger sitting on the front right fender will vibrate off and onto the floor within 10 minutes of starting the engine. You'd think I would have seen that coming. She doesn't run real well unless the choke's out a half inch. Think my timing is off a little.
After 4 hours the garage still can't get over 30 degrees, that's enough shivering for one day.

To Steelyard: Would you mind sharing the paint brand and mix formulation for your Luzon Red?

Also, what did you use for primer (brand, type, color)?

Luzon Red is among the most mysterious paint colors for early Willys jeep (2A, 3A, wagon, Jeepster) restorers. The more info we all have, the closer we can nail the color.

Thank you.

Today I got out the timing light and took my newly rebuilt L134 for some test runs. At 8 degrees btdc it was a turd, at 10 degrees it ran better and at 12 degrees it was really running good! All without any pinging or drama. I was surprised at the difference in the small increments.

Mid 50's here in this part of Oregon today. I did more clean up in the shop and cut the Plates for my new Roll Bar on a saw house out in the driveway wearing a Tee shirt.

SO GLAD it wasn't pouring down rain like it will be in a day or two.

The seams in the passenger seat cushion broke open. Mom agreed to sew them up. I pulled the seat apart. The wood was rotten. I made up new ones. I figure the driver is going to be in the same condition. They are on my workbench being primed and painted. I'm going to put in a plastic barrier on the topside and bag the cushions to keep them from becoming a sponge. I had hope to find some markings in there to prove the previous owner's claim that she was a movie car. He claimed they redid the seats and painted her grey. No such markings. Maybe on the driver side.

I removed the nonfunctioning Belleview winch. That thing must weigh 60 pounds. I'm not a big fan of it, but the PO did such a good job welding it in there that it is going to be major surgery to get it back to original.

Drove her to Home Depot to get plywood, to mom's to drop off the material and to Auto Zone to exchange the incorrect Fram C3 oil filter for a C134PL. Several thumbs up and comments about her along the way.

LuzonRed47,
My tailgate paint job was just a test to see what the color looked like. It was a spray can job over some cheep primer I had. It looks good from ten feet.

When they scanned it, they came up with a match to the Toyota Red Carnelian within a 0.03 of being exact. I tried to find a chip for the Toyota color but couldn't. I think it was used between 1971 and 1973. The Nason is a cheaper version and what I had them make up for my test.

I posted this before because I knew this has been a topic.

Did you hear they found the Bullitt car?

Micah
