Just bought a 48 CJ2A in fair shape. 134 supposedly rebuilt engine sounds excellent but loses oil pressure when the temp reaches 180. Can anybody steer me in the right direction to save me pulling the engine?

Welcome Larry to a great CJ2A club with tons of info on these fun little vehicles. Take some time and navigate through the web site to get familiar with it. Like your question would get more attention in the tech questions and answers forum.
As far as your oil pressure concern, it happens quite often to have what seems to be low oil pressure in these L134 engines. The manual states 6 psi at idle and 20 psi at around 30 MPH (2000 rpm) to be OK. I almost had a heart attack when my new rebuilt engine dropped to around 10 psi at idle on the first maiden voyage.
Good luck and enjoy your new adventure.

Larry,  Welcome!

The dip stick shows all of the oil in the engine - from full to empty is 4 quarts.   Make sure it is full of oil.

5W30, no leaks no measurable consumption, just the low oil pressure worries me. I've read about the.070 port at the timing gear. Don't understand why that would cause loss of pressure once it warms up to 180.

The 15-40 oil makes the most sense to me. These engines were built to such low tolerances. I'll let you know.Thanks.

I also went to Rotella 15-40 plus Lucas oil stabilizer and that raised the oil pressure by around 10 psi. I probably didn't need to do that but I just feel better with the higher oil pressure and the lower blood pressure.

Rotella no longer has the recommended amount of zinc in it for our flat tappet engines. Rotella has 1200ppm of zinc Lucus Hot Rod and Classic oil (designed specifically for engines like ours with Flat Tappets has a zinc content of 2100ppm

All of the diesel oils have had the zinc and Phosphorous content reduced to meet the SN oil standards required with the new Ultra Low Sulfur fuel required in all post 2015 trucks.

Personally I will be using the Lucus Oil. Or one of the zinc additives.

I changed the oil from 5w30 to 15w40 made absolutely no difference in the oil pressure. 35 to 40psi till it reaches normal operating temp, 180 to 200 degreesConfused. Scratching my head.

Larry,

I read back through this and couldn't find it.
Did you tell us what your warmed up oil pressure is?
What is it at idle and and higher revs?

180 to 200 degrees is its normal operating temp oil pressure drops to about five psi at idle 600 t0 800rpm.

You could verify with another gauge. Does the pressure rise with engine speed?

 Just throwing this out there...

I remember reading a Willys Service Bulletin that talked about a change in the hole size for the oil sprayer that lubricates the timing gears.  The change was to stop oil starvation on one of the engine bearings, but it would probably have a positive impact on the oil pressure too.  The original .070" orifice was changed to .040".   If you have a sprayer with a .070" orifice, you could pull it, weld it closed then re-drill it to .040".  Not sure that it improves your "hot" oil pressure, but it's an easy enough fix to give it a try.

According to the gauge in mine, once warm at idle it show 5 psi. I run 15w40 and don't worry about it. Once I hit the gas it pops right up to 25. Same thing happens in my wagon with the same motor.

I have the same with my F134, and if you search around this and the CJ3B site, you will find that running pressure will be about 25 to 30 # and idle at about 5#. I had my F 134  rebuilt and that's what I'm getting.
