Thanks Jeff. 

Stan, ever consider a custom cross member of some sort that may help with the clearance but not affect C.O.G.? May require serious mods to the parking brake assembly though. Just a thought. It's my plan but, at the same time, I'll be switching to 11" rear brakes w/ parking brake and losing the t case mounted brake.

Well, the limits i have set on myself is kind of the Locker-Stocker class as described by jpet. "no mods that you can tell have been done without putting a wrench to it." Basically lockers and gears. I removed the parking brake a couple of years ago when it grenaded while on a trip to Ouray and never replaced it. Haven't really missed it

Jeff, Rick and I arrived a little early on the Friday before the actual week of Easter Jeep Safari started. On the Saturday we did a little practice run on The Pickle that has been documented in previous videos and then we drove over to Wipeout Hill which was the site of the first EJS Flat Fender Run that I participated in two years ago.
 I remember being quite nervous about going up the hill, but once up the right side I wanted to go back down and try the left side that everyone said was tougher. Too many jeeps were waiting that day so I didn't get a chance at it. 
This time it was just the 3 of us and we wheeled the heck out of that hill. It was really fun. After we all climbed and descended it every way possible, a group of folks that saw us earlier in the day on The Pickle stopped by so we extended the show a little bit for them. 
Here's 16 minutes of 3 friends and their flatties having a great time on Wipeout Hill.

So, have any of you guys had any damage from this trip?  It looks like you all made it without any issues except for Rick's axle.  Everything else looking good?  No broken shackles?  Nothing?

Stan , love your determination to stay stock looking. Maybe super secret squirrel rollers similar to a winch fairlead installed at your common drag points?????? Roll over those points? just thinking. Oilly

Damage, yes, but a quick field repair took care of my issue.  I have a stock CJ2A and I broke my steering bellcrank pin trying to go up the second obstacle on the Pickle run - driver error!!  I was lucky the Drew Barber has a spare Steering Bellcrank repair kit and along with my tools and a few from others, we were able to replace the pin in about 20-25 minutes while the rest of the team went up the obstacle. Here are a couple of pictures of the sheared, 3/4" pin:



This will likely be a new purchase and kit I carry along with me in the future.

I also need to credit Rick, Ward and a few others that helped out in the repair!

That very first day, Rick repaired my radiator from an apparent rock that flew up while on the trailer. By the end of that day, I lost 1st gear and did without the entire trip. Monday, I broke a front axle shaft. (Had an extra). If you watch the end of the video dluber posted of the Green Day trail, you see everyone going over to BAM BAM to see what's up. That's where I broke the axle. Sometime during the trip, I broke my rear differential yoke and my u-joint was slopping back and forth.

If you watch Rick's video, at 6:22, you will see BAM BAM climbing the side of a wall The front passenger tire will not stuff. This is because my shackles actually inverted. Look how high up his front end is at 7:44. Both front shackles are inverted. Watch the video at 11:57. This is the front end unloading that I was talking about in Building A Universal Modified. as I come back, you can see the shackles are inverted. To fix this problem, I connected my winch to the front axle to keep from drooping past break over.   My plan is to make some sort of permanent suck down winch for the front.

Here's another video of us on Wipeout Hill.  Several of the segments looks like Jeff's because he was holding both my GoPro and his phone.  Stan, I apologize for not getting more video of you on Wipeout Hill.  You go up so slick and fast, I just missed you. Unhappy.  Stan makes everything look so easy and effortless.  Sometimes, filming him is anti-climactic.Approve

Yeah, I broke my axle and had a near electrical meltdown on the way out of the Pickle on the last day.  The cockpit started filling with smoke and I had to quickly shut the machine down.  Finally, traced it down and it was mechanic error (meConfused) for leaving a hot wire unconnected when I put the body back on right before the trip.  Who would have thought breaking all those parts would be so much fun?!?!?!?!!!!!Thumbs Up

    The sound in the video is terrible as I think my GoPro was rattling against my window frame. 

    The best part for me is watching the videos that others took of my driving.  It's great to see the good, the bad, and the ugly so I can learn from the footage....  I had a few ugly moments but it was all fun.

  Thanks for taking the video, and here is my learning in public moment coming up the second run on Pickle.. I was off the line by about a foot on my second attempt and you can clearly hear the break of the pin!   The video of coming up Greenday, I clearly had my wheels turned to much towards the passenger side.



Here is the Greenday video that you took of Sydney and I making our way up to the first major climb.  Thanks Ward for guiding us along!

Man, very impressive!  You guys are making field repairs that would take me a day to do in my garage. 

Stan, I'm with you on keeping the stock height.  Seems to me the higher vehicles were having some issues that we 'lowriders' just don't have.  I like the proportions and look of the stock jeeps better too.

 Anyway, sure have enjoyed your trip to Moab!  Almost as good as being there.

Dave, that sure is a nice clear lens on your camera - really good video.

Watching these videos and reliving our week in Moab is awesome. As I have been watching the videos it almost seems to me like I am driving a smaller Jeep that Rick. 

Here's Rick and Gus on Wipeout Hill. 


Here's me and Grampa's Jeep in the same spot. 


It looks to me like Gus is way bigger than Grampa's Jeep. Maybe not so much in these two pictures, but in the videos. Both Cj2As, one a 47 and one a 48. 

The only real differences are Rick's bigger tires and slight lift and my bigger belly that's closer to the steering wheel and my longer legs. 

Anyone else get the impression that Gus is a larger than normal flattie or Grampa's Jeep is smaller than normal?

Well...I wasn't going to mention it, but Stan has me busted.  It is true.  Gus is WAAAAAYYY big.  Here's a photo of Sydney standing on my bumper taking a picture of Gus.  Big smile

That looked like so much FUN.   Difficult enough to be challenging,  but not as damaging as some of the other Moab videos.
