Since I'm welding a new back wall on the trailer, I need the tube stock that is at the top of the walls.  Pardon my ignorance, but I don't know what to order.  Meaning, the size.  I did order a length of what I thought was right, but it ended up being really thick walled and smaller diameter than I thought I was getting.  So I either ordered wrong, or they sent me the wrong item.  I'm really going with it was my fault.  So can anyone tell me what size tube stock is used around the top of the M416 trailer?  TIA

Sometimes it's baby steps, as frustrating as that can be.  But I did get a few small items blasted and primed today.

She just told me they would give a "not to exceed" quote of $500 if someone called asking for what I just had done. That's blast and prime.

How much did it run you on sandblasting and primer on the frame and tub, if you don't mind me asking?  Looks good, btw! Thumbs Up

I did the same on the wheels.  Part of the beauty of these little trailers is that one person can man handle them on level ground and they can be tucked into small space when you are in the field and not towing them.  Bigger wheels - wider or taller - may change those things.

For now, just going to blast and paint the original wheels.  Too many projects that require $$.  So that's one place I'll have to save money by sticking with what's there.

I was just going over the belly and the sides where the fenders had been mostly.  Cleaning up the gunk and flaky stuff before blasting it.  The earlier picture with my wire cup is just where I got carried away.  That part was coming clean so well I just kept going for a bit.  Only as far as the picture shows.  

Thanks for the advice on the flap wheel.  I will look into that.  I have the kind that has the "flaps" laid down and I use that on the welds.  Never tried the kind where the flaps are standing up.  Is that the kind you are referring to for sanding?

Well, I got my fenders blasted.  But it was taking longer than expected.  My blaster works well, but my limited available time to get to it is the problem.  So I caved in and took my tub and frame to my wife's shop and they made quick work of it.  I'll still blast the small stuff, but the big stuff will be left to the pro's.

Freedom21 - How is the trailer build going?  You might try a sanding flap wheel on your grinder.  Easier on the arms and will give you better control than a wire cup on a 4" angle grinder.  You can also use the flap wheel to clean up any welds.

I went out tonight and took the wire wheel to it for a bit.  I am going to sand blast it, and started out by just cleaning some of the flaking and gunked up areas.  That way there would be less to blast off and less to contaminate the black beauty blasting material.  I am sifting it and reusing it.  After doing that, I just kept going with the wire wheel.  The bed is cleaning up nicely.

The mounts are sandwiched into the frame so if any water creeped in and then the corrosion process or freezing took place...
The primer area in the pictures is the original frame and I just used a cut off wheel to remove them from the frame sections. If you look at the center where the stud is welded to the actual frame it could have also been torn in something heavy was dropped in the tub and literally ripped them loose.
 
These trailers could have been through some really rough abuse while still in service.

The shocks don't seem to be seized up, but the PO did say he used it for a wood hauler.  So maybe over-loaded??  Not sure, but it's fun cutting and welding a little.  And the grinder makes things prettier.  Big smile

Looking good! Wonder what would have caused those particular areas to split open, were the shocks seized up?

BTW, I'm a grinder.....not a welder too :-)

I was able to get out to the shop for a bit tonight and work on the trailer.  I decided to tackle the frame holes.  If you remember, the shock mount holes opened up to the point that I was able to pull the bolt heads right through.  I got out the wire wheel and cleaned up the area.  I forgot to take a picture of that first, so I took this quick pic after cutting out the holes.


I then cut a filler plate and welded it in.  Of course, I forgot to stop and take pictures, but you guys have seen ugly welds before.  So here's the first plate welded in.  This is as far as I got tonight.
