I converted my 51 Willys wagon to disc brakes and have the old set of brakes sitting in a box. Would be interested in trying them on my 3A.

Not meaning to highjack the thread but my question seemed appropriate to the topic.  Will Willys pickup truck brake backing plates from the Dana 53 axle work as a direct bolt on to the CJ2a Dana 41 axle?  If not a direct bolt on, is it possible with any modifications.

SO everyone not using a stock proportioning valve with built in residual pressure valves is using something like Wilwood valves (10PSI for drum brakes). I have a suggestion for a sealer to use on the 1/8NPT threads on the adapters if you happen to mess up the preapplied sealer.

Permatex 54540 Pneumatic and Hydraulic Sealant not cheap but highly recommended on the Hot Rod forums.

I don’t have anything other than Jeep and some OEM part numbers.
Those are CJ numbers and may be the same as some of the Jeep “J” trucks, Wagoneers etc.
Can’t do it all …so no Ford, Chevy, Toyota nor Lamborghini numbers from me.
Ha ha ha !

Typical sellers rarely identify the plates by the original part number.
Most any Jeep from
Late 60’s to the 80’s will use late design 11” Bendix.
Front drum CJ parts from 1972 through 1976 are ideal.

Oldtime, is the last P/N listed a Ford backing plate?
If not do you know anything about using them?
I would guess they would be easier  to find.
I might even have a spare pair from my '56 F100.

No one manufactures the backing plates new, you have to find good used ones.

That is what I already posted.
Those are all backing plate numbers.

I just typed in on eBay and saw a set of two plates available.

Front Commando part numbers are:
943144 left
937949 right

Front Intermediate CJ’s are:
8121379 left
8121380 right

Front post 1975 CJ’s are:
32301047 left
32301048 right

Rear backing plates will accept park brake cables.
You will need to drill two new 3/8” mount holes on these.
Rear post 1975 CJ’s are:
3201051 left
3201052 right

There are many other 11” Bendix plates that can be made to fit.

that will fit 46CJ2A? And a supplier.

Thanks

11" brakes were one of the best improvements I did on my Jeep.

Resurrecting this old discussion. We've had a number of guys join who may find this useful. But also because I finally got around to installing the 11" rear brakes I put together two years ago. But rather than just swap them on the D41, I ended up using a D44 built with new 5.38 gears and a limited slip diff. I now, finally have nice 11" brakes all around Big smile

My CJ2A had disc brakes on the front when I got it, but they were the larger Ford calipers which require spacers to clear the wheels. They worked okay, but I went with 11" drum brakes when I replaced the front axle.

Were I to ever decide do a conversion to disc brakes I would not use these Ford calipers, so anybody who wants those can have them for price of postage. Probably be cheaper to buy new rotors locally, but the brackets and calipers should fit in a flat rate box so shipping wouldn't be too much.

About a week ago I shipped two complete 9" brakes, drums and all, across country in the large flat rate box for only $21.10.

Some years ago I purchased a kit from Mile High Jeep Rebuilders in Denver.  The 11" brakes stop my CJ5 with authority, most of the time.  Like all drum brakes they do not work well when wet.  Whenever we cross hub deep water the brakes get wet and do not work.  I am not looking to replace the 11" brakes but plan on a disc upgrade on the M38.

Thank you!  I needed a set for the rear, nothing critical just nice to have.  Had not looked for these in a while.

Noticed 4 sets of 11" backing plates which would work for this conversion on Ebay today.

All came up with a search for  11" brake plates CJ

Two sets look like CJ5 plates - Same seller - One set $50 Plus $39 shipping, other $85 Free Shipping so about same price for either. These include some parts, one looks like drums too.

One set of DJ5 backing plates - Plates only, look nice, are cleaned and painted $149.50 Free Shipping

One set of Willys Truck backing plates - $75 Free Shipping - These are manual adjustment with single eccentric.

I look for these regularly, but I already have what I need for my two Jeeps. Since these are getting hard to find thought I should post here in case someone else is planning this upgrade.
