Was searching for the button head bolt steering knuckle up grade - nice work! Did you do a tie rod flip when you did the steering knuckles work? And if so did you uses the straight hole with the tapered insert or did you cut the taper it the tie rod hole from the top?

I did not do the tie rod flip but contemplated it a lot and probably will do it eventually. It took a lot of work to get the tie rod in and it just barely clears the springs. I’m using a cj5 drag link which just fits.
I’m close to finishing up the steering. I have the tilt column in, borgeson slip shaft, and a 4 bolt sagina box. I built a mount for it which I am still fine tuning and hope to have everything connected for the last time soon.  |

Picked up my windshield this morning, $350 out the door. Better than the first quote I got but not as great as other members have reported. For me though, I’m happy. It was a local shop about 7 minutes from my house so it was convenient plus they had it done in a day. I think it looks great, first time the flattie has had glass since this project started!  |

I came across this restored Harrison heater locally. My 2a has firewall knockouts for a driver side heater so I had to drill holes for the passenger side to make this work. 
  I've got it all wired up and it works. The output from the fan surprised me, it really blows!

And a gratuitous glamour shot. The to do list is pretty short now. I need to hook up the clutch pedal, I have an Advance Adapters chain linkage arriving tomorrow. The brake system needs fluid and bled. I'm working on exhaust right now. I purchased a box of bends and straight pipe to build my own. Once all that is done I can fire it up and hopefully drive it finally!

So a friend of mine bought two CJs and dozens of boxes of parts from a widow who's husband had been a collector. Most of the parts are early Jeep and military items, some NOS, some refurbished, and some just used. Among the boxes of stuff was this heater, unknown condition but appeared to be restored so we made a deal and it came home with me! The switch was still in an original box with part number stamped on it so presumably NOS. And that, as they say, is the rest of the story...

I got my exhaust welded up. This started as a box of pipe that included various bends and straights. It's 2" pipe, which I read was stock size for the Dauntless. It's all very tight under there, common theme for putting a 225 in a 2a. I think it looks good given my little experience building exhaust and it fits. My plan is to fire it up this weekend. I need to bleed brakes and fix a leaking power steering hose, but that's about it.

Fabrication wise I think it looks great
 ... my fear is it may be rattle tight to the frame in a couple spots, and the drive shaft is going to self adjust it the first time you reach for the bump stops (but I really can't talk, lol... my dauntless back in the day went header/collector/stubby muffler/elbow in front of the rear tire on both sides

Thanks for the comments. It is all very tight under there. I have rubber isolators at the Y pipe and the muffler, which I am hoping will help absorb some of the vibration. The tail pipe clears the frame and drawbar brace by about 1/4" so we'll see. The rear driveline has about 1" clearance, maybe a little more. I have Rancho springs under it, which I hear are pretty stiff so I'll probably have to try pretty hard to reach the bump stops. My guess is that I'm going to have lots of quirks and bugs to work out once I get it moving under its own power...

It's been a project of trial and error for me, which I'm sure will continue after I get it moving. I'm just really looking forward to driving it. I've been working on it for almost four years and who knows how long before that it was last driven, the plates expired in 1996!

Well I got the motor fired with help from some older generation Jeep experts. That Buick v6 is so finnicky, it took a lot of trial and error to get the HEI set just right. I took it for the first drive in who knows how many decades and it was awesome. But, there are lots of issues to sort out. It's leaking oil terribly from the oil pan or timing cover. I'm hoping it's just the oil pan. The Harrison heater I thought was rebuilt is leaking coolant on the passenger floor so that will have to come out and get opened up for inspection. I'm leaking a good amount of oil where the transmission and transfer case come together. And the brakes need more bleeding.
So lots to get bogged down by, BUT I built this jeep from the ground up. Every nut and bolt has been replaced, all new parts, and lots of upgrades. I rebuilt the transmission and transfer case myself (first time ever) and am happy to report that both shift flawlessly. The clutch also works, which I feel like is a huge success. I installed the Advance Adapters chain linkage, which seemed like a crapshoot in the moment as far as placement on the frame and whatnot, but the clutch works perfect. So I've got some leaks to address, but driving it through the neighborhood with my brother and 3yo nephew in the passenger seat was one of the best moments ever.
