All,

Did the search on finding VIN and no joy, nothing in the usual and unusual places.

Took it to CHP and he spent an hour looking everywhere.  He's going to do more research and check with other folks, but we're both trying to avoid worst-case - He asked how difficult it would be to remove the tub if we need to search other places.  I laughed and told him 7-8 hours (no idea, but I know it's not a simple or quick task).

Any ideas, help or suggestions on either where to look or more importantly how to prove it's a '47 2A?

He's hung up on the year.  He gets it's a CJ2A but wants to confirm the year before he assigns it a new/clean VIN.

Thanks,

-Thomas

did you check the usual places? I'm guessing no data tags..what about the driver's side/ outside on the frame by the front bumper? On the driver's side tub support? Or along the right side edge of the tail gate? You may have to remove some paint to find the numbers...

Do a search on CJ2A spoters guide. It will give you places to look. Pulling the tub will be of no help.
AMC tub number should at lest be there unless it’s a replacement.

Good luck

Mike

Pink Slip
My 1968 California Pink Slip used the engine number as the VIN.

Unless you are certain the engine is original to this 2A, it probably won't work to 'date' your Willys.

The spotter guide won't do a very good job of determining that it's definitively a 1948.  There isn't much change when comparing a '47 to a '48...Unless it's a "Lefty".

I assume you're not finding the serial number plate or frame tag.  I am holding out that you can find the ACM number shown in the documents above.  If you do, you can use the Data link below to "place" your '48.  You could open this up for the CHP to prove it's age...

Good Luck.  Let us know how it goes.

No ACM number on the Drivers Toe Board gusset would indicate a late 48 would it not since Willys didn't put that number there on the Tubs they made starting in mid 48.
