OK so approx 3453 of the first CJ-2A had the Spicer 23-2 Full float rear axle. Were these 5.38 gears or 4.88's. Everything I can find says the first CJ's were equiped with 5.38's to better preform as tractors. Were any of the CJ's equiped with 4.88's or would a CJ-2A found with a 4.88 gear set most likely be a swap from a surplus MB/GPW?

MBs and GPWs all came with 4:88. A 23-2 is basically a D25 but from what I have read you can only get 4:88 gears for them. Ummm, you can get 5:38 gears for a D25, I've never tried to put them in a 23-2.

I knew they were the same ring and pinion but I didn't know if they were the same case size to fit in the housing or case if you want to get pickey. It never happened at the shop I worked at. 23-2 go ta 4:88 gear set.
