Willys Jeeps and Flat Fenders Welcome Next month will be the 69th anniversary of the De Anza Jeep Cavalcade aka Hemet-Borrego Jeep Cavalcade. Some 400 vehicles, mostly Willys Jeeps, went on this epic off-roading event April 2,1949. (See this great article from Desert Magazine that summarized the event on eWillys.)
To celebrate the anniversary a few flat fenders will be getting together on April 6th and will be retracing the original route, as much as possible. There might be several starting points, but the main one will be in Hemet and as in the first run we will travel south through Battista Canyon, stop in Anza for a snack and photo shoot and then head out to Coyote Canyon. Coyote Canyon part of the trail is for the brave at heart and there is only one way in and one way out so I’m sure some of us will stop there. More details to follow and sorry for the short notice. Contact me if your interested and we’ll get the details nailed down. Steve Bovee grandpajeep5@gmail.com 951-357-8108 |

Interested.
Have been over the route many many times as a child with Hill-N-Gully Riders out of Riverside. Cried when they closed Coyote Canyon. Got to drive my Jeep through it as a teenager.

Will keep you posted.
Should have it nailed down this week. Bautista Cyn is "washed out" but maybe our jeeps can get through, (checking it out today) or we'll go through Sage and down.
Look forward to meeting you and feel free to pass the event info on to your club. |

I’m afraid I’m going to have to cancel this event. I just found out a few days ago that Batista canyon, the traditional route to Anza, is closed due to flood damage and also the response has been minimal. So for those that did respond I would like to stay in touch and do this run at a later date. Since the 70th anniversary is next year maybe with the support of the Hemet Jeep Club and others we can do it right next year. If you know other flat fenders that would be interested in doing some So California get togethers please let me know.
