Has anyone changed to a spin on oil filter? What is best for our 4 cyl. engines?

I don’t know what brand the set up on my MB is, but it sure makes oil changes a lot easier.

The later 60's 134F used a spin on by pass NAPA 1050 or 1704 Walcks sells the base https://walcks4wd.com/oil-filter-base-spin-on-style.html and the mount. I made a mount to hang the filter low where my generator would have been had I one. Do not used a std remote filter adapter and normal full flow filter.

Can you send me a picture of your Spin on oil filter? Are you running a Alt. in place of the Gen.? I operated a articulated loader in the service. The loader was called CHUG A LUG.
Thanks for your help guys.

There are some photos of my setup in my project thread on page 36. I needed to raise the mount to make sure the long filter I am using would clear the drive shaft. The Chug A Lug thread.

Does this filter header / filter have some kind of restriction to limit oil flow?

I may be wrong but I'm not sure that is relevant to this particular setup (a full flow filter)
There is the restriction in the timing gear oil jet. I very well may be wrong, in which case we will be told shortly. |

I think your correct rocroll this setup is what was used in the 134F in the late 60's which has the exact same filtering and oiling requirements as any of the 134L or F's The Filter is a Bypass filter it has a special thread so a full flow filter can not even be threaded on the adapter. And just looking at the filter you can tell its different then something for a chevy or ford. The flange where it screws on only has the center hole and 2 approx 5/16" holes. Somewhere I have a list of all the Filters that will fit. But as it has been proven that the NAPA Gold filters are some of the best filters made (construction and filtering medium etc.) I gave those numbers the 1050 is the short and the 1704 is the longer version. The jet in the timing chain cover should be .040" as per Willys upgrade when they went from a .070" jet to the smaller one. I personally drilled my .070" out and threaded a brass screw into it with the .040" hole drilled down the center to achieve the upgrade dimensions. |
