If the 3 synchro plates were not properly 'captured' by the spring during assembly, then they will quickly fall out of position.
The noise almost sounds like the outer clutch hub assembly was moving too far forward and contacting 3rd gear.

Guys, I have a development on my T90 issue.
So my syncro is still shot and the 3 pressure plates are still missing, but i switch the shifting column to an OEM old one I had laying around just to see if the shifting column shown in the video was part of the problem, I bolted it down and I can tell you it shifted into 3rd and it didn't make ANY RATTLE at all. it sounded PERFECT. I will obviously have to fix the worn out syncro still but the shifting column was for sure part of the problem. I can make another vid tomorrow on it. Right now i suspect the function of the pressure plates is to hold the collar in exactly the right position, so that the transfer case will still operate even if the shift column is worn out or was just manufactured out of perfect spec. (all it needs to do is push that collar over the plates and it will stay in place) When i compare both shifting columns it is super obvious that the problem one pushes the collar WAY forward in 3rd compared with the OEM shift stick. It was maybe 7 years ago that i bought the transmission/transfercase so i don't actually remember if i got it from kaiserwillys or what, but it was i think, the same that is old by omix ada. I'll post some video....
