Well this was a project put on hold for a year, but is now back up and going forward. 1967 Stephenson M-416. It was all stripped down last year and sand blasted to bare metal. I ordered a tailgate section this spring, but with all the other things happening around here lately, its been sitting in Red Oxide primer for a year. Primer is definately dry, so I scuffed it all a few weeks ago and apply apoxy primers over the red oxide and then same day, sprayed OD green to the individual parts and bottom and sides of the tub. Two weeks later, its assembly time. The plan for this is a RTT camper. Have not decided which RTT yet, but looking for a used one first before pulling the trigger on brand new. Overall thought is fabbed cover, slide out trays for the cook stove and a 12 volt fridge, solar powered battery, a few night lights. I am going to work up a top for it that will go straight up to add some height for the annex under the RTT. Some maybe 1/1/2 square tube frame and sheet metal top. As you see it today, I have flipped the axle , but not sure its staying that way as of right now. I'm going to put a set of 33X10;50 -15's on this week, to try it out, but think it will be a bit on the top heavy side with those and the axle flip. So may go back SUA configuration, but who knows. So that's it and enjoy the pictures, this all happened today. I had nothing else better today. Any suggestions, fire away.

Man I sure do like your tailgate mod. Best I've seen yet. Without a tailgate the limitations on the M-416 become real apparent.

Yeh I agree, but some would scold you for doing this, because they think it's wrong to cut up the rear section. But what they don't realize is this one came with no rear section. Then I put one in and cut it out to install the gate. I considered doing a larger gate by just hinging the entire rear, but had this tailgate I just repaired. I like the Jeep gate better. Now to buy some roll out brackets for the stove. Still have some engineering to do before I finished the inside bed portion.

I like that idea, but have to extent the A frame to get a motor on first. EFI onthe cj5 I like better .

A Bantam or 100 scolding might be appropriate. The M-416 hasn't reached that level of collectability. That mod you did looks clean and factory-like. Plus that trailer is now more practical.

Thanks appreciate the support. I agree, the 416 has not reached much of a level of respect amongst the purist yet. So what the hell.

Well it finally made it inside for finishing. Plans are to build the top this winter and install sliders and tent. Pictures to follow when I build the top. Any ideas on top construction?

May I ASSuME that EFI stands for Electronic Fuel Injection, (my guess), & not Electronics For Imaging, as my Google search indicates? If so, I agree. Now, how about turbo charging & electronic ignition? Yes, the frame would need some lengthening to do it, but what a ride! |

I think it would be easier to drop this tub on the back of an S10, than to extend the A frame for a motor transplant.

Thanks for the offer, but I have three already blasted and painted. And I would prefer a in person visit. I also have a stack of spokers painted up. Have not decided yet which to use.

I have a question about your tailgate modification.
Looks very nice from rear but .... How did you fit a 14” tall tailgate in place of an 18” tall rear panel ? You have any pics to show how it looks with tailgate open ?
