A whole lot of "instrumentation" on Larry Shank's jeep added by his dad back in the day.

Adding holes seems pretty easy.......

Bruce,
Dumb question time, how is the altimeter read? It appears to be at around 510 feet.

Kind of like a clock. You've got the right idea, but you're a decimal place off. The "little" hand shows thousands of feet and the "big" hand shows hundreds, with the marks between numbers being ten feet each when read by the "big" hand. Mine is currently showing 5,130 feet. The "very little" hand also shows thousands of feet, but can show more than 10,000. The "inches of mercury" is adjustable by the knob at the lower left. When the inches of mercury matches the barometric pressure where you are, the altimeter should show the elevation where you are. Notice it's showing 30.24". The pressure here the day the picture was taken was lower than that, causing the altimeter to read higher. If the inches of Hg was adjusted to the baro pressure at the time, the altimeter would have read 4,990', the correct elevation at my home.
Pilots, (and/or Cpt.Logger Wink) am I correct?      BW

Not trying to be an ass or anything, but isn't it reading 5,160 feet? Or, to be very precise, around 5,162 feet?

Embarrassed  Not an ass at all, you are correct. My mistake, each mark on the face is 20’, not 10.  BW
