I am her out of curiosity as to what I have. The pink camo wreck I have (it runs and drives, fret not) has a Saturn overdrive with it, and I am too ignorant to know anything more. Any info/ tips and advice would be awesome. It seems to be be good to have an overdrive, but again, I don't know. Also anyway to tell age or if it's a factory option?
Thanks guys

Not factory warn introduced the OD in 1962. When they quit making them Advance adapters bought the design and started selling them in 1991.

You’ll like having an overdrive. It doesn’t make you go any faster.....really. It allows you to cruise at higher speeds with less RPMs, the engine noise is less, it cruises more smoothly. I kind of liken it to having an extra 1/2 gear at 1st, 2nd and 3rd....now you have a 1.5, 2.5 and 3.5 as well. They are a very coveted option for us classic Jeep types.

Is the OD usable and useful in all config? Like 4Hi, 2Hi, 4Lo, 2Lo?

I use mine in low range more than any other time. Especially useful when traveling in a group and trying to match speeds with your trail mates that have different gearing or power set ups than you do.

I looked at a cj3a with a v6 auto and a warn overdrive. How does the overdrive work with an auto?

I love the OD in my CJ.  Standard equipment from now on with every project.  Makes up for the standard gearing and gives the engine a little breathing room.

Oiling is critical to their life span.
42 MB that had a one night stand with a much younger 69 CJ5 and a 50s GM truck.

Warn/Saturn OD's replace the mainshaft drive gear in the D18 transfercase.  The only relationship with the transmission is the diameter/spline count on the transmission output shaft which must match the overdrive unit.  As long as the splines match, what type of transmission doesn't matter.

I've never seen a Saturn behind an auto.
Didn't know they made an auto with D18, only D20?
Custom I guess.

I ran an overdrive behind a turbo 350,(the trans had an advanced adopters kit for the t-18)work just the same as behind a t-90, except shifting, I speed shifted mine all the the time, but if you can’t get the hang of that then just shift when stopped.
