I found what looks to be a great deal on a hard top and doors for my Jeep. I have a '48. The description says that this will fit a M38 or earlier flat fenders with minor alteration. Does anyone know if it will it indeed fit my Jeep, and what is involved in getting it to fit?

Should fit with very little to no modification. The only thing you might need to address is the rear corner of the top where the top bow brackets are on the body.

Looks like the one on my 46.
Has a slight split at the rear top bow brackets.

Bill,
Could you possibly post a few pictures of your top and the rear bow brackets? |

I have what appears to be the exact same top on my 2a. Mine is missing the inner windshield frame and glass though. Also the rear bow brackets keep it from dropping down over the tub side like I think it should. I bought the top 10 months ago and just test fitted it last weekend.

the biggest modification is that new holes need to be drilled in your cj2a tub to accept the windshield frame . It mounts vertically , has no angle. if your are in snow country it may be a good thing to get.

I have a similar top. It supposedly was on a CJ2-A before I got it. I think the MB/GPW inner windshield frame would fit in it. Maybe this explains why there are so many that lack an inner frame - they were supplied without one? BW

It is NOT a Jeep Willys! It is a Willys jeep.

I'm still thinking about it. The ad is still up. I hesitate for two reasons- it needs a lot and would be pretty far down the project list, and I do not really want to store it when not using it as space is limited. Looking at the pics posted to this thread however makes me want to see if it is still available. I'll post an update if I get it.

I had the same concerns about the one I brought home - needs work and where do I store it. But I figured they probably don't pop up complete all that often and I had the cash at the time so I figure why not

The big screws along the top can be removed.
I think they are 3/8 - 16. Eye bolts at each corner will let you run rope or cable diagonally across the center so that you can remove the J bolts holding it to the tub and lift it off with a come along. Then it ends up hanging from the top of your garage or a tree. Maybe still not what you want to do, but I wanted to point out it is do able.

I would sure like to find a pair of those rear upper corners. Would make my Aluminum top build easier.

If you have some yard space, put some cinder blocks under it & use it for your garden storage. I think about three rows of cinder blocks ought to do it.
