Oh well, posting pictures isn't my thing. Maybe the next version web page will be easier.

That really stinks, Steve. So you had to turn around and limp back to the trailhead? Did you then ride along in another Willys and finish the trail, or did you call it and head back to a shop to have repairs made? Tough luck for such a long trip...but it builds character! Rick, you took your locking hubs off. Is this an advantage on a trail like this? Thanks for the photos and videos, guys!

Chasendeer in Napa had offered help for any breakdowns and he came up with replacement axles in Diamond Springs (near the Rubicon). Flatfender Afficianado in Moab had been planning on going on the trip but couldn't make it. He suggested Rockcred in Monticello Utah to replace the axles. You can see my jeep in the shop (Shaefer's Auto, Monticello). Caught up with many of the Rubicon crew in Moab then Ouray. All in all, it was a good experience.

Tom, I took them off 2 years ago after the last Rubicon trip. They stick out too far past my narrow tires. They got bashed and broken pretty bad the last time. Edited by Rick G - 03 Aug. 2021 at 10:28pm |

Thanks Jeff for posting the videos. I hope the last video won't make my big tyre Willys looks so bad. I ran the first day with 7-1/2 lbs of air and the second with 5-1/2 lbs. Watching the videos I realized we should have just pulled out the valve stems.

Here he is totally spotting Nick dude over this wicked knarly obstacle. It was most excellent!!
... I can understand throwing a rock in if someone’s struggling but what I saw was him filling the hole up with rocks before you even got a chance to put tires on the obstacle. I was waiting for him to back up the cement truck. My strategy was to take the line that he pulled all the rocks out of. |
