I have a question for you guys. My new CJ-2A only has one ID tag on it, which is the one of the front frame, right behind the bumper. Is there an official Jeep site that I can not only find out exactly what my Jeep is, but also get genuine replacement tags with the correct information on them?

If anyone has tried this before I would love to get the resources that I can use and look into!

dataplates4u.com Robert is the hands down expert on data plates.

The serial number will only tell you where in the order your jeep was made (if its a 2A which I assume since you say it has a frame tag and none of the other models 3A DJ 5 or 6 M-38 have that)

www.dataplates4u.com

Pick the number you have on your title. It will make it a lot easier to sell if you ever decide to. The the body number plate and frame number plate would match the serial number plate. (edited)

The serial number should look something like CJ-2A xxxxx or CJ-2A xxxxxx depending on how late the production was.

Depending on how it was titled to begin with, the engine serial number might have been used as the serial number on the title. The engine serial number would not match the body number or serial number tag.

If it has a frame tag, the frame tag, the serial # tag, and the body # tag should all match. The ACM # and the engine # will be different, and will not match each other, either. After mid-'48 the ACM # went away and the body tag # took its place. At or about the same time, the frame tag disappeared.

This link helped me narrow down the info on my 47, 2A. The comment by Bruce is what I have found to be correct.

Using the data provided, I was able to estimate a general time of manufacture. The engine number in mine turned out to be from a Kaiser car. (thanks to the knowledgeable folks here).

without the extra "http" added.  Either will work just not both at the same time.

Here is the our very own 2A Page data that confirms what Bruce said.  Frame Tag Number matches original Vehicle Serial Number until mid 1948.  If your 2A is a '45, '46, '47, early '48,  then your frame tag number is your VIN.

1- 1946 CJ2A
2- 1949 CJ3A

It is registered as a 1948 but if I did my research correctly, it is a 1946. The frame tag number is CJ-2A 70925. I look into the sites you guys posted to see if I can get some replacement tags for it!

Thanks everyone!

It would be better to have the paperwork corrected to match the tag than to get a tag that isn't correct.
There's a reason it's called Ol' Unreliable
