Personally, if one line was bad I would assume that the others cannot be far behind. I would replace them all along with all of the rubber hoses. Don't skimp on brakes!

I looked at the hoses forward from the MC when I was getting the fronts ready for discs. They actually look like they were replaced sometime in (relatively) recent history. The only section that might be suspect would be between the MC and the rear frame. I'll check it over thoroughly before I put rubber to road. Thanks for the advice!

Got the lug studs put in the front hubs and those put back on the axle with the rotors. The company I ordered lug studs from only shipped 1 box of 10 instead of the 2 boxes of 10 that I ordered (and that are listed on the packing slip), so I'm waiting on the second box to get here. Also installed the new rear brake lines today. Tomorrow I'll grease the steering knuckles and attach the calipers. Coming together!
Included is a picture of my birthday present from my mother in law. |

Front brakes are done! Well, except for bleeding. Can't do that until I have all 4 corners done. One more step done though!

While waiting for my other box of lug studs to get here, I decided to make a keychain for Papa Doc. Took 3/4" copper pipe, hammered it flat, stamped it, and sanded it. It's far from perfect, but perfect for PD!

Got the rest of the lug studs and got them put in the rear hubs, put the hubs on, attached the calipers and started bleeding the brakes! All went well with the rear, no leaks, no issues. When we started on the front, there was a leak from the connection between the hard line and the MC, and no brake fluid was getting to the calipers. So it looks like I'll be replacing the rest of the brake line, which I should have done to begin with...

Out with the old, in with the new. Replaced brake line today!
Also, took off the tow bar today. I'm not going to flat haul PD, so no need for it taking up real estate... |

I'm finally done with the brakes!! The lines are bled (and not leaking) and the wheels are on (lug nuts to the proper torque).
However, Papa Doc wouldn't start. I think the starter has crapped the bed. It was trying to crank just fine, then it slowed down and now won't try to crank at all. Guess it's time to upgrade to a 12V starter and go ahead and put a key ignition in. Two steps forward, one step back.

Good news! The starter isn't fried! I got confused by the volt gauge reading 12V. Turns out I just didn't have enough amps. A night on the trickle charger and PD cranked right up! Now I've just gotta tune the idle on the carb. Anyone have any simple instructions on doing that?

Got Papa Doc's carburetor semi-tuned today. Basically I just matched the idle mixture and idle speed screws to the old carb. Hoping it gets me close and I can fine tune it from there as needed.
Here's Papa Doc's new stance on his new (to him) rims and tires, courtesy of SE Kansas 46 CJ-2A! Thinking about maybe eventually going to NDTs, but I'm gonna ride these for a while! |

Papa Doc rides again! Got the carb tune about as good as I can get it. Starts fairly easily, runs well. Took a number of runs around the block, and took my son for a ride. Think he's as hooked as I am now!

Looking good...especially those tires and rims! You need to drive Papa Doc on some short road trips to find out if there are any issues that haven't surfaced yet.
It looks like you have that hunting rig that you wanted now. |

Thanks! The rims and tires are working out great!! The next run for PD will be driving out to a friend's land and seeing how he does off road. It's been wet and miserable around here lately, so that'll be hopefully next week. But I'm that much closer to being trail ready!

Those of us in southeast Kansas can relate to the weather in the Tulsa area. The last couple of days have been cold and miserable. Without a top I don't get out on days like this. I don't mind the cold, but the wet weather kind of sucks...
Glad the rims and tires worked out for you. |

Yeah I didn't take PD out until after the rain had pretty much stopped. Was still pretty miserable though. But I'm not gonna let the cold stop me!
