Well today isn't going so well. Went to work this morning. Got in one load when the dispatch calls and tell me to dump my rock hook back up to my trailer and head back to the shop the excavator operator is leaving due to a Wild fire threatening his house. OK I get home about 10am and all of Silverton and much of the surrounding area is on level 2 (GET THE f**k PACKED AND READY TO LEAVE) No way can I do anything about the shop. or CHUG no way to tow it no trailer no steering to even drag it with a chain. SO theres that to worry about.

I have been running sprinklers on the house and as much of the surrounding area as I can. I have two big Maple trees close to the house One is over the shop area.

The Firearms, Reloading supplies, Cameras, Art Work, Pills, Paperwork, A weeks worth of clothes are ready to go.  Just have to load it in the car and pickup. What a bunch of work to get that ready.

Now we sit here and wonder. Fire near as I can find out is still at least 12 miles away We have maybe 300 houses and all of town between us and it. Might not sleep so much tonight.

Wish I had put a construction policy on CHUG now. We have good insurance on the house etc. But its not covered and would have to come out of the contents coverage.

What a way to screw with a persons head.

Watched the local news tonight and it looked like everything along Hwy 22 was burning.

Be careful.

I feel bad for you and hope the wind etc. works in your favor. If you can cut any vegetation away from the structures and possible build a fire line by plowing the dirt etc. watering, and think like a fire fighter in the time you have, it might help save your home/shop. Mow any grass down real short etc.

If your home is on a slope or sidehill, there isn't much you can do if the fire comes up hill at you. Don't be a hero.

Wishing you the best. Oilly

X2 on cutting a firelane around your property to stop the flames there, and mow lawn super short.  Were all hoping it stops before reaching you, when you have dodged this bullet get chugger on the road so it can be driven far from danger.  It doesn't matter where you live in this country Maw nature has surprises for all of us at different times of the year. Be safe and remember material things are just that. Keep your family safe and let the professionals do there job

Oilleaker I live on a 62.5 x 105 city lot in the middle of other sized lots. I have two large maple trees one in the yard the other right against the north side of the shop and masterbedroom. master bedroom. Removing either would be near impossible due to the risk to other structures.

5:45am still at home.

Certainly not mirroring your situation Mark but i have horses and mules. During wildfire threat and most all other times we keep the horse hauler rig ready to roll 24-7. We have a loose network of folks (incl the rural FD) and develop an evac plan. Our stock #s exceed our hauling capabilities, some folks have no trailer etc but we are in communication.. be there for your neighbor and he will respond in kind. Fortunately we have never had to implement a bug-out plan. Another red sunrise here on the snake r plain.. Muley..

My brother lives in Vida, was evacuated at midnight 2 nights ago. Not confirmed, but looks like that area is gone. He was a couple miles back in on 6 acres, 2 homes, shop, several outbuildings. He got out with just the clothes on his back. Had to leave everything behind, '49 3A, Harley, tractor, etc, etc!

Sandi has posted some videos of Detroit --- Holy crap!
I stayed up there last Friday & Saturday nights in my inlaws cabin.  Oddly, it's one of the few still standing.

Still here at home 7pm Wed. Zero wind here almost all day which is a good thing. More people between town and the fire have been told to leave. But no fire anywhere near them. Talked to co workers who live on the edge of where the fire raged and they are still whole. Though some of their extended family has been this afternoon told to evacuate. My brother is still out of his house but has been back to haul more stuff out.So here we sit cars loaded watching the wife stress out

Glad to hear your still at home and safe. We're thinking about you! Sounds like you've got a plan in place, and resources, which to me is the most important thing in those situations.

We have a fire right over the ridge behind our place.  2 miles.  There isn't much vegetation on that ridge and it had a few inches of snow on it.  So far we have been ok but a wind shift could change that in a hurry.  The cool weather the last two days throttled it back but it isn't out or even much contained yet.
We do have things laid out and a priority list of what to throw in the trucks, along with the backpacks loaded for a 5 day stay.  My flatty probably won't being going anywhere either but I could put the tow bar on it.

Ok got told today I have to night pave in Lebanon Fri. Sat. Nights so now we are making plans to move the Jeep out using a small trailer from work. With no steering or brakes a trailer or tow bar is the only way to move it. If things don't improve by tomorrow noon. I will seriously work towards moving it out of here. We are still at level 2. Friends up Silver Ctrek canyon have been ordered out last night. But fire is still miles away.
