I am changing P/S boxes on my flattie. Can anyone explain the difference between a box with the number 92 on it and one with the number 76 on it?

The embossed “92” comes from the casting #7826692.
They are a Saginaw 800 series box used by GM after 1979

They have a 3-1/8” bore.
They have 3 bolt mounting.
They have “o ring” fittings.
They have 30 spline input shaft 3/4”.
They are 3 turns lock to lock.

The embossed “76” comes from the casting #5691676.
They are a Saginaw 800 series box used by GM and Jeep CJ before 1980.

They have a 3-1/8” bore.
They have 4 bolt mounting.
They have “flair nut” fittings.
They have 36 spline input shaft 13/16”.

There was an even larger box used on the J20 Gladiators # 5687962.
They are the largest boxes, the 808 series Saginaw box.

They have a 3-1/2” bore.
They have 4 bolt mounting.
They have “flair nut” fittings.

John this last CJ box I picked up seems to be about 1980.
It’s 4-1/4 lock to lock as normal.
It’s got the later  “o ring” type hoses yet still has 13/16” input shaft.
