Hello again folks,
Does anyone have the exact size for each Copper crush washer for the Banjo Bolt on the Master Cylinder? Yes I know I could just order some, however my local Hardware has a decent selection of these types of Copper Washers and we've matched them before. Unfortunately we didn't save the size's we purchased and it was 7 years ago. If no one has an answer I'll take the old washers with Banjo with me and try to match. Thanks

That's how I would do it. Probably take the bolt too.

I don't know the size, but I found my rebuild was a lot easier to make leak-free when I annealed the washers before install.

Annealing is a good idea because when the washers are punched out during manufacture it work hardens the copper. Heating the copper washer to where you begin to see a color change in the copper (not quite yellow heat) will soften the copper. Air cool.

I always quench brass and copper in water to anneal after heating it. I use to do reloading for some of my guns and annealed the brass that way. Jim

It can be quenched if you wish. Either way it will be softer than when you started and the washer will conform easier to the ridges on the banjo, thus making a better seal.

On aircraft the procedure requires an oil or water quench. I always do this. I usually use oil. That being said, my cousin uses the air quench. So far, 35 years and counting, neither of us has had any issues. Your Jeep, your call.

Thanks all for the info I really appreciate it. Upon trying to remove the Banjo boltout of the master cylinder, it snapped in half.

If you look closely, someone in the past used two Crush washers on the inside of the Banjo. Now to be fair, either they didn't know any better or it was the only to stop a leak, I can't say.
Does anyone know where most of the vendors are sourcing these washers from? I'd like to find the source for these two items.

When replacing the banjo fitting never use a used washer. The ridges that are formed in a used washer will never completely be crushed back out and chances are you will have a leak.
