I have been enjoying my Jeep for a while! It is a nice reliable ride. Very happy with it. Switched to M38 headlights after this picture. And added steps, MB body handles, and a fire extinguisher.

New 4.1 liter Buick V6, headers, exhaust, clutch, radiator, wiring, wheels/tires, disc brakes, dual master cylinder, swing brake pedal, 4.10 gears in rebuilt axles running a 4 speed and D18. Working on modifying my hard top to fit the windshield and improve looks. And fix heater to get ready for winter driving!

I love the look. I have an M606 (3B) ventilating windshield here I plan to put on my CJ-3A for that same lower windshield height.

Thanks! And cool! I wanted a venting windshield and a lower windshield. So the 3B is perfect! Gives a more military Jeep profile. I also cut my roll bar 3” shorter.

Great looking jeep.
The lower windshield definitely gives it a cool look with those tall tires! |

Thanks Flatfender Ben! I grew up 4 wheeling in the 1970’s around the Rubicon and the cool Jeep’s that I remember had the gold miner hood ornament. So I had to have one too! I swapped my headlights for M38’s to be different.
stevez, yep! That place is a national treasure if you ask me. A bar in the middle of no where without plumbing or electricity. Waiting for some snow and heading back. :) |

boy if that place could talk! I had some old friends that did the rubicon a long time ago and had those hood ornaments. Wasn't that tied to doing the trail?

I think it was just a period souvneir that was available in the area, but may be wrong.
I DO know they became pretty pricy over the years since....I looked into hunting one down/buying one around 20 years ago and decided I didn't need one that bad. |

I bought my gold panner hood ornament about 20 years ago. I stopped by an old mom-and-pop 4wd shop and it was in the glass case. I had to have it!
I don’t think it was tied to the Rubicon. Being that gold was discovered in El Dorado County (Coloma) and the Rubicon is in El Dorado County, it’s a natural.

A little update…l did install a NOS venting 3B windshield. Fit well and I love it! I ran a while with the stock seats and a spacer raising the seat (spacer came on the Jeep). I then removed the spacer and ran the stock seats for a while. Lots of room. I then installed some modern leather new captains seats (high back with arm rests). Yeah, I agree stock sets look nicer, but after a whole day of wheeling they get less attractive. So, I went with comfort.
I also installed a hardtop. Along with my Harrison heater, winter wheeling is great! I sectioned the hardtop 4” to fit the lower height 3B windshield. It came out great, and is still a “work in progress”. I am 6’-0”, 225 pounds and while driving I have as much or more visibility than a couple of my other cars. This is especially the case with the windshield glass in the open position as the distance from the top of the outer windshield frame to the opening is shorter than a non-venting windshield providing more visibility. Thank you! It has been great fun to build and work on. I have found time to tinker on a few things in the last couple of weeks. I built a roof rack (need to finish paint it), putting together a cowl snorkel intake, and installed a smaller steering wheel. |
